Apply rock mechanics principles to surface and underground mine design problems ranging from basic applications to state of the art design. Develop techniques and methods to create solutions for rock mechanic issues. Perform numerical modeling in support of rock mechanics projects. Provide specialist numerical modelling services utilizing Finite Difference, Distinct Element, and Boundary Element codes including FLAC, UDEC, PFC, FLA3D, 3DEC and Map 3D. Prepare technical documents to document and support analytical and numerical studies. Undertake geotechnical field investigations including logging of soil and rock core data, mapping of rock slopes, and sample collection and preparation for laboratory testing. Carry out geotechnical/geological characterization studies for open pit and underground mining projects.
Bachelor’s degree (or foreign equivalent) in Mining Engineering and 2 years of experience in the job offered or in application of principles and practices of rock mechanics in underground and surface mine environments.
All stated experience must include applying numerical modeling to both surface and underground mining projects; building and developing models drawing on in-depth theoretical understanding of numerical methods including 3D finite difference, distinct element, and finite element codes; three dimensional distinct element/finite difference based modeling of room and pillar mines.
Stated or other experience must include one year in laboratory testing of rock samples, interpreting the test data and applying them to constitutive material models; mining ground control; and developing three-dimensional meshes to incorporate complex geometries in 3D numerical models.
Stated experience must include in-depth experience in discrete fracture network (DFN) modeling.
