Golder has a new opportunity for a Range Scientist/Botanist to join our Mine Environment team in 3 to 6 month temporary position at our Albuquerque, New Mexico office.
The selected candidate will support reclamation-related projects efforts with an emphasis on the mining industry in the southwestern US. The ideal candidate is a technically strong scientist with experience collecting and managing project-related vegetation information including data compilation and entry, statistical analyses and validation; document research, and map interpretation. Field knowledge of botanical surveys, vegetation sampling methods and plant identification are required, experience with soils and wetland delineations is desirable. The person in this position will be responsible for documenting all field activities in accordance with project procedures and coordinating with the project managers and clients.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Conduct field vegetation surveys and monitoring.
Plant systematics and identification in the field and lab.
Data entry and statistical analysis.
Commitment to work safely and adhere to health and safety protocols; and
Interact positively and communicate clearly with team members, client representatives, regulators, subcontractors, and other stakeholders.
Bachelor of Science in Range Management, Botany, Forestry, Ecology, Land Restoration, Environmental Science or related field.
Minimum of 1 year of relevant private or public sector experience.
Strong understanding of field methods to survey and monitoring vegetation
Ability to work independently and within groups.
Willingness to travel and work in remote areas as dictated by project demands.
Graduate degree in Range Management, Botany, Forestry, Ecology, Land Restoration, Environmental Science or related field.
Field experience at mine sites (active and/or closed).
Field or classroom experience in soil science and/or geology.
Experience with geographic information systems.
40-hour OSHA HAZWOPER training and MSHA training.
