Golder has a new opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Anchorage team. The focus of the work includes developing and conducting geotechnical field investigation programs, geotechnical engineering analysis, and reporting. The successful candidate will work closely with our Alaska geotechnical group that specializes in permafrost related geotechnical engineering aspects as well as fundamental geotechnical engineering applications.

Your primary responsibilities will include:

  • Contributing to projects as team member and/or team leader, developing business relationships, communicating with the client(s)

  • Developing and implementing geotechnical field investigations and laboratory testing programs

  • Assisting with and/ or carrying out various data analysis

  • Assisting with various field activities, including assessment and analysis of geotechnical conditions and leading geotechnical investigations

  • Working with or supervising field technicians and (earthwork and drilling) subcontractors

  • Developing technical skills and sharing these skills with other members of the project team

  • Developing project management skills appropriate to your level and background

  • Compilation of data, interpreting laboratory results, analyzing soil-foundation interaction, and technical report writing

  • Completing other tasks as assigned by project managers

  • Undertaking assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home office

  • Passenger vehicle driving will be required for some services

You will be expected to have regular interaction with clients in our oil and gas sector and public infrastructure sector. Project management oversight capability is desirable but not required. The position will require travel and work in remote locations in Alaska and other areas as needed to meet project requirements.

The successful candidate will have the opportunity to work with experienced teams in executing geotechnical investigations in frozen and unfrozen ground, and perform shallow and deep foundation engineering analysis.

Required:

  • An undergraduate degree in civil engineering from an ABET accredited university.

  • Interest in cold regions and permafrost soils is desired.

  • Experience with soil and/or rock specimen laboratory testing programs for index and strength properties is desired.

  • Computer based deep foundation axial and lateral capacity software

  • Computer based slope stability software

  • Microsoft Office Word and Excel

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, with verbal and written proficiency in English.

Preferred:

  • Master's degree from an ABET accredited university in geotechnical or civil engineering with an emphasis in geotechnical engineering.

  • New graduates welcome, internship experience desired.

The candidate must be eligible for employment status in the United States and possess a valid United States drivers license. In addition, the candidate must have a professional work ethic, interact well with the public, have excellent teamwork skills, and pass a pre-employment physical including drug screen and background check.
