Golder Associates Senior Water Resources Engineer in ATLANTA, Georgia

Golder has a new opportunity for a Senior Water Resources Engineer to support our engineering and environmental projects in our Atlanta, Georgia office.

In this role, you will lead engineering projects under the supervision of senior staff and support from a talented team of engineers, geologists, and scientists. You will have the opportunity to work alongside consultants from various disciplines on exciting and challenging projects locally and around the world, primarily in the government, mining, and power sectors but also the manufacturing, oil & gas, and land development sectors as dictated by business needs. This role requires demonstrated experience and expertise in one or all of the following technical service areas:

  • Dam Engineering

  • Hydraulic Structure and Systems Design

  • Surface Water Management

  • Watershed Management

Candidates with multifaceted experience in other areas beyond water resources such as geotechnical engineering, environmental engineering, waste management, and mining engineering are encouraged to apply.

This full-time position will suit someone with strong technical, analytical and modelling skills and an interest in applying scientific and engineering principles to a wide range of environmental and engineering projects.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Participating in a wide range of engineering projects, from conceptual water management planning to detailed design of water infrastructure and construction oversight.

  • Support the water resources engineering efforts, including environmental assessments, environmental permitting and engineering design projects by:

  • Performing site visits and other field activities to assess projects.

  • Conducting climatic, hydrological and hydraulic assessments, including fieldwork, data management, data analysis, and modelling.

  • Developing water management plans and completing conceptual design of water management infrastructure.

  • Developing erosion and sediment control plans and completing engineering design of the hydraulic infrastructure.

  • Completing water balance modelling to assess water management alternatives.

  • Preparing conceptual, preliminary, and detailed designs of water management infrastructure (e.g. open channels, sewers, culverts, spillways, energy dissipators, holding and settling ponds, pumping systems) including capital and operating cost estimates.

  • Conducting flood risk assessments, urban drainage design for land development projects.

  • Conducting water resources engineering designs for stream restoration projects.

  • Preparing design drawings, technical reports, regulatory permit documents, construction documents and technical specification.

  • Project-based travel and site work, both within the USA and internationally. The frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client needs.

  • Business Development (BD) activities including preparing or providing input to proposals, participating in trade shows and conferences.

  • Managing, Developing, and Mentoring junior staff.

  • A ‘safety first’ attitude, promoting positive health and safety, raising safety issues through the appropriate channels and adhering to Company health and safety policy and procedures.

Required:

  • Degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field. with

  • 10 years of demonstrable experience in water resources related to hydrology, hydraulic structures, dams, erosion and sediment control, stormwater management, watershed management, stream restoration, or detailed design of water control and conveyance facilities.

  • Proficient with hydrologic and hydraulic modelling software (e.g. HEC-HMS, EPA or PC SWMM, HEC-RAS and/or ICPR), AutoCAD and ArcGIS software.

  • Ability to work independently and make decisions with input and review from senior staff.

  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills (in English) with experience writing technical reports and project proposals.

  • Strong organizational skills with project management capabilities.

  • Confident in managing professional relationships including liaison with clients.

  • Positive approach to working as a mentor and in a team environment.

Desired:

  • A Master’s degree in Civil/Environmental Engineering or related field.

  • Professional Engineering certification or ability to obtain within one year.

  • Demonstrated experience in business development and client management
