Golder Associates Staff Construction Engineer in BIRMINGHAM, Alabama

If so, an opportunity now exists for a Construction Engineer to join our Gorgas team in Birmingham Al . The focus of the work includes site-based engineering support and quality assurance tasks associated with coal ash dredging, processing, and deposition. Our team thrives on developing client solutions for construction challenges.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Contributing to projects as a team member

  • Scheduling and/or planning duties in the office or on site

  • Project control and documentation responsibilities on site

  • Assisting with preparation of estimates for changes on site or with proposals in the office

  • Assisting designers with detailed engineering design and specification package development

  • Quantity take-off and verification and collection and reporting of data

  • Collection and reporting of data

  • QC sampling and testing and resolving on-site design issues/changes with designer

  • Cost control, project controls and layout

  • Document Management (daily records, drawing register, change management)

  • Interpretation of drawings and specification for construction site supervisors, foreman, operators, tradespersons

  • Providing support to Project Manager, Design Managers, Engineers and project teams for successful execution and delivery of projects

  • Maintain required industry and corporate training requirements

  • Identifying and reporting potential and existing site hazards, incidents, potential Fatal Risk Controls and potential Serious Injury Fatality

  • Assist with writing technical reports that document field and laboratory investigations, engineering analyses, and design recommendations

  • Developing technical skills and sharing these skills with other members of the project team


  • Undergraduate degree in civil engineering or related field

  • Four years of related experience

  • Comfortable working in remote settings

  • Demonstrating a safety conscious focus

  • Proficient in Microsoft Office
