Golder Associates Senior Programmer and Geoscience Modeller in BOURNE END, United Kingdom

Key Responsibilities

n Conceiving and driving forward software solutions within the global fracture modelling team, including developments of Golder’s FracMan software, to stay ahead of the market;

n Maintaining close links with our clients in the Nuclear and Oil & gas sectors, including delivering software training courses, seeking opportunities to offer our existing services or innovate new solutions to clients’ needs;

n Leading business development and major proposals to help develop our portfolio of modelling projects;

n Delivering bespoke projects across hydrogeology, geomechanics, data management, and coupled physical processes;

n Work in close coordination with both global fracture modelling team and the domestic nuclear team to develop the business and services we can offer;

n Communicate project deliverables to clients and be an advocate for our modelling services to external and internal stakeholders;

n Achieve and maintain a chargeability to be agreed with your People Manager and reviewed annually or as determined by specific business need.

n Display a ‘safety first’ attitude in line with an interdependent health and safety culture, promoting positive health and safety, raising safety issues through the appropriate channels and adhering to Golder health and safety policy and procedures;

n Project based travel and site work, working away both in the UK and overseas. The frequency and duration of this will depend on business and client need.

The role is office based in the UK but requires frequent travel (10-20%) overseas or within the UK, and often at short notice; flexibility with working hours is essential.

Essentials Skills and experience

n Doctorate or Master’s degree (or equivalent) in a Mathematical, Engineering, Earth Science or Physical Science related field;

n Strong track record of development and use of numerical modelling tools and techniques in hydrogeological, mechanical, fluid dynamics or geophysics applications;

n Experience of software development in languages such as Fortran, C , or Java;

n Experience of delivering earth science related consultancy solutions in a variety of sectors principally nuclear and oil & gas. Exposure to other sectors including mining and infrastructure also an advantage

n Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to work, displaying initiative and decision-making skills;

n Successful experience of preparing bids to competitive tender processes;

n Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English, with the ability to both absorb and impart information;

n Excellent technical writing ability and reporting skills;

n Confident in liaising with clients and managing professional relationships;

Project Management skills;

n Commitment to Continued Professional Development and continuous improvement of industry knowledge; and

n Full Driving License; and willingness and ability to travel in the UK and internationally.

Desirable

n Experience of data management using SQL or MS Access;

n Experience in use of GoldSim; and

n Experience of international projects and clients.
