Golder is currently seeking an Associate General Counsel with relevant experience gained from a top law firm or in-house environment and a strong background in the engineering and construction industries.
Effective communication skills, self-motivation and the ability to work independently within an entrepreneurial team environment are essential attributes required for this role. As a key member of the legal team based in Montreal, Mississauga,Vancouver, Calgary, Edmonton, or Ottawa , you have 12 to 15 years of experience in providing a broad range of legal services to the engineering and construction industry. Fluency in French, both written and spoken, are strong assets. This position will report to the General Counsel, located in Mississauga, Ontario.
An overview of yourrole will include:
Supporting the General Counseland the Global Legal Leadership team on matters of national and internationalimportance
Providing mentorship andleadership within the Canadian Legal Team and various business units
Drafting, reviewing andnegotiating engineering and construction contracts, procurement contracts,commercial agreements and associated documents, primarily in the fields of:
Oil & Gas
Geotechnical and EnvironmentalServices
Review and negotiation of thefollowing types of agreements: Design Build: Project Management andConstruction Management; EP, EPCM (complex domestic and international at riskand as agent)
Providing legal support relatedto employment law, health & safety, corporate governance, compliance,mergers and acquisitions, tax and enterprise risk management
Actively managing a diverseportfolio of claims, litigation and arbitration disputes (including supervisionof outside counsel)
Providing strategic advice forlitigation decisions and reviewing pleadings, motions, discovery and otherlegal documents
Working closely with allbusiness units and providing a strategic blend of business and legal advice toemployees at all levels in the organization
Facilitating risk managementand contracts training
You will have abackground in:
12 to 15 years of relatedindustry experience;
Lawdegree from a recognized institution and membership in good standing with aprovincial bar;
In-house experience workingwith an international organization;
An enthusiastic team player,who works well both individually and with others, in a fast-paced environment;
Preventing, Mitigating andSettling Engineering and Construction Claims
An ability to provide soundbusiness and legal advice to all levels of the company
