Golder has a new opportunity for a Geo-Environmental Scientist/Engineer to join our Environmental Remediation team on a full-time basis based in Calgary. The successful candidate will work with our Geo-Environmental Team, which consists of professional geoscientists, engineers, environmental specialists, and technicians.
An overview of your role will include:
Serve as a Project Manager and/or Coordinator across the life cycle various Geo-Environmental projects such as, Phase I and II Environmental Site Assessments, remediation, groundwater monitoring programs, soil Vapour assessment and monitoring programs
Participation in a team environment, working closely with Project coordinators, other Project Managers, Senior Project Directors/Technical Leads and Field Technicians/Scientists/Engineers
Preparing Health and Safety plans and Emergency response plans
Preparation of proposals and cost estimates
Scheduling of field staff and subcontractors
Compile data for reports
Report writing and review, including preparing conclusions and recommendations
Project accounting, tracking and reporting requirements to the terms of reference under Golder’s Master Services Agreements
Training junior staff in environmental practices including Phase I and II ESAs, drilling, surveying, groundwater sampling, oversight of remediation etc.
Training other Golder staff on site specific health and safety
Interface with clients to ensure needs are met and projects/proposals are moving forward - Work with other members of the team to ensure provision of the support necessary for completion of projects
Work with and provide support to other members of the Environmental Remediation Group in sharing health and safety, project management, project completion and client service responsibilities
Assisting with site assessments and remediation processes, including characterization and remediation of contaminated sites (including design and implementation of remedial strategies) and regulatory liaison; familiarity with the regulatory environment in Saskatchewan/Alberta is an asset
Liaise with Golder staff external to Alberta, to share with, and assist as required
Travelling when required to conduct project work
Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff
Maintaining a high standard of behaviour to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrating a commitment to our Core Values
Provide support to Senior staff
Performing other tasks as required
Qualifications - External
You will have a background in:
Bachelor’s degree in Geology, Hydrogeology, Environmental sciences, Civil, Geotechnical or Environmental Engineering
Academic qualifications which give the candidate eligibility for professional registration in Alberta (P.Geo or P.Eng.)
4 - 7 years of relevant experience
Project Management and coordination experience
Strong team player – ability to work with all levels of an organization
Detail-oriented with a focus on quality of work
Highly effective verbal and written communication skills
Sound understanding of the need for health and safety procedures in the workplace/Possess a safety conscious attitude
An analytical mind; someone who is able to make recommendations on the next steps for client sites
Strong field experience and willingness to work in the field on projects as needed
Ability to work patiently with and help train less experienced team members
Strong interpersonal, communication and key judgment skills
Understanding of the Alberta Environmental regulations such as Tier 1 and Tier 2 guidelines,
Flexibility to work extra hours and for business travel when required
Must have a valid driver’s license
