Golder has a new opportunity for a Senior Indigenous Affairs and Traditional StudiesSpecialist with a focus on Indigenous use of lands and resources (i.e. Traditional Land Use) to join our Environmental Planning & Permitting team on a full-time basis based in Calgary.

The successful candidate will help Golder deliver high quality regulatory approval assistance to our clients by leading the Traditional Land Use component for Environmental Impact Assessments and facilitating the incorporation of Indigenous Knowledge into regulatory submissions. While a large part of the work will focus on preparing traditional land use assessments, other tasks may include supporting Indigenous consultation and engagement programs, facilitating Indigenous participation on field programs and preparing cultural studies on behalf of Indigenous groups.

An overview of yourrole will include:

  • Writing,editing, and reviewing baseline and assessment reports on Traditional Land Usein support of Environmental Impact Assessments

  • Completinghistorical and current research related to Traditional Land Use

  • Conductingmeetings, focus groups or interviews in Indigenous communities

  • Liaisingwith internal Project Managers and external clients

  • Liaisingwith other component disciplines (e.g. bio-terrestrial, archaeology, aquatics)

  • Providingconsultation and engagement support services to clients (e.g. record ofconsultation keeping, responding to community concerns)

  • Assistingwith proposal writing

You will have abackground in:

  • Successfulcandidates in this position may come from a variety of academic backgrounds(e.g., anthropology, environmental sciences, Indigenous studies, biology) and havea master’s degree

  • 5plus years recent experience contributing to Environmental Impact Assessmentsas per provincial, federal or territorial requirements, ideally with a focus onTraditional Land Use or Indigenous Knowledge

  • Understandingof different regulatory contexts and requirements

  • Experiencewith Canadian Environmental Assessment Agency processes

  • Demonstratedexperience with proposal and technical report writing (strong written andverbal communication skills)

  • Understandingof Indigenous culture, history, reconciliation, protocol, and issues faced byIndigenous peoples

  • Experienceworking with Indigenous communities in Canada (preferably Alberta, NWT,Nunavut)

  • Understandingof social science research methods

  • Knowledgeof Aboriginal and Treaty rights

  • Workingknowledge of Alberta and Canada Aboriginal Consultation requirements will be anasset

  • Abilityto be flexible and work independently on multiple projects and priorities

  • Provenability to develop strong relationships with internal and external clients andIndigenous communities

  • Strongorganizational, time management and analytical skills
