Golder is currently recruiting for a Senior Water Quality Specialist to join our Water Quality team. The ideal candidate will be located in our Prairies and North Region at either our Calgary, Yellowknife, Edmonton, or Saskatoon office.
As a senior practitioner, you will be accountable for successfully consulting on water quality and environmental assessment related projects and supporting environmental permitting activities in the Prairies and North Region while networking with Golder’s Canada-wide and global technical teams to share best practices across the industry. An overview of your role will include:
Initiating, leading, managing, and/or supporting a wide variety of water quality and environmental assessment projects related to mining, municipal, power, pipeline, and oil and gas developments
Directing and developing water quality assessment and investigation projects with multi-discipline teams, and overseeing multi-component aquatic environmental monitoring projects
Overseeing multiple projects within scope/budget/schedule expectations and ensuring quality standards are met on project deliverables
Designing, planning, and overseeing complex field programs, including baseline and operations monitoring, aquatic effects monitoring, and construction monitoring
Managing data, analyzing and interpreting data, preparing technical reports, and providing oversight and quality control for data collection, management, and analysis
Working with multi-disciplinary project teams to acquire environmental permits, water licences, and approvals from regulatory agencies
Directing the application of scientific and statistical methods to problem solving
Supervising, training, and mentoring junior and intermediate staff to develop their skill sets including technical skills, project experience, and general consulting and decision-making skills.
Possessing a proven commitment to safety, and leading, adhering to, and promoting a safe-working culture
Taking an active role in developing and maintaining client relationships to support existing, new, and developing business
You will have a background in:
University degree (M.Sc. or higher preferred) in Chemistry or Environmental Sciences, Aquatic Biology, or Ecology,
Minimum of 10 years of experience or equivalent
Background in designing complex field programs, interpreting water, sediment, and aquatic toxicity data, developing effluent discharge limits and adaptive management frameworks, and either generating, or interpreting, water quality model predictions
Experience with working on large multidisciplinary projects, as a component lead or director/advisor
Excellent technical writing and communication skills
Demonstrated project management and technical skills.
Knowledge of mining-related environmental practices and aquatic effects program development and execution
Knowledge of environmental assessment board processes and permitting requirements
Ability to multi-task, maintain flexibility, and work independently with minimal supervision.
Experience in presenting technical information to the general public.
