Golder has a new opportunity for a Junior Geotechnical Field Technician to join our Construction Services team on a contractual basis based in Cambridge, Ontario.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Completing construction materials field and laboratory testing under the direction of our senior technicians, engineers and scientists;

  • Providing oversight and quality control of technical services in a field, office and laboratory environment;

  • Supporting and developing our materials testing services business and on-going client relationships;

  • Working with our senior business leadership team to deliver, grow and manage the success of our construction materials testing services;

  • Performing construction site reconnaissance, inspections and observations and training of other technicians for testing soils, concrete and asphalt; pile driving; grouting; foundation drilling; supervising drill rigs and/or excavators; logging boreholes and test pits; site surveying; sampling soil and groundwater; and preparation of detailed site sketches and field reports;

  • Providing technical assistance, training and guidance of junior technical staff;

  • Coordinating staff to maintain equipment and methods in compliance with expected standards (e.g., MTO, ASTM, CCIL, etc.);

  • Summarizing and analyzing findings from field and lab testing in written reports;

  • Working with and providing support to other members of the local and regional groups in assisting with other field, laboratory and office activities as required; and

  • Participate in mentorship, training, review and other interrelated activities toward succession planning and a positive work environment.

You will have a background in:

  • College Diploma in a Civil Engineering or Environmental Sciences Technology program, preferably with a focus on site monitoring activities, including use of specialized equipment;

  • Co-op students (preferably available May through December), new graduates and those with up to 10 years previous experience working as a Geotechnical Technician;

  • A drive to develop your career toward delivering, developing and managing a local and regional construction materials testing business;

  • Must own a vehicle with appropriate insurance coverage and hold a valid driver’s license;

  • Good written and verbal communication skills; and

  • Strong organizational skills.
