We have an opportunity for an experienced Senior Hydrologist to join our growing Environmental Services Business Unit based across our UK offices, providing high-quality technical hydrological input and leadership to projects across the UK.
The successful candidate will have a broad range of technical hydrology experience, knowledge of water resource studies, possess excellent communication skills, and be professional and confident working with and presenting to Regulators and clients. In this role you will have the opportunity to regularly work alongside professional consultants from a range of other disciplines, in a dynamic and adaptable business environment.
Undertake flood risk assessments and prepare drainage assessments/strategies including SUDs, and design flood mitigation for a variety of development projects.
Competently conduct rainfall-runoff analyses, statistical analyses, GIS mapping, water balance modeling, hydrological and hydraulic modeling.
Manage hydrological input for Environmental Impact Assessments (EIA) and other environmental projects.
Provide technical leadership for a range of water management related studies and investigations from pre-feasibility through to detailed design.
Work in a collaborative way, managing your own workload and delegating effectively to junior staff to meet deadlines.
Support business development activities, developing client relationships and writing proposals.
Potential to mentor junior staff.
Support the maintenance of good relationships with both new and existing clients and represent Golder effectively when required.
Travel and conduct site work, attend client and Regulator meetings, working away in the UK with the potential for international travel.
ESSENTIAL SKILLS AND QUALIFICATIONS
First degree in civil engineering, environmental science, geography, earth sciences or a related field with a strong focus on hydrology.
Member of professional body (e.g. CIWEM, ICE) and possess/be working towards a relevant Chartership.
Proficient with hydraulic and flood modelling software (e.g. HEC-RAS, TUFLOW, and MIKE) and confident in determining the appropriate approach.
Experienced in the preparation of flood risk assessments for new/existing developments and familiar with working within the UK planning regime.
Experience in the preparation of water chapters for EIA.
Ability to demonstrate a resourceful approach to work, displaying initiative and decision-making skills.
Aptitude for numerical / statistical analysis and information technology, willingness to learn and adapt to new approaches.
Excellent technical writing skills with experience in proposal writing and technical reporting.
Organised with good time-management ability.
Excellent communication skills, verbal and written (in English).
Commitment to Continued Professional Development and continuous improvement of industry knowledge, including relevant legislation, policy and guidance.
Masters (MSc) degree in hydrology or related discipline.
Proficiency with GIS (ArcGIS suite) applications.
Experience of project management.
