Golder has a new opportunity for an EnvironmentalField Technician (Intermediate) to join our Contaminated Sites team on a full-time basis based in Edmonton.
This new opportunity will allow you to conduct field work related to monitoring, investigating, remediating and reclaiming contaminated sites impacted by hydrocarbons (diesel, gasoline crude oil etc.) salts and metals. It is expected that you are self-motivated and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills.
An overview of yourrole will include:
Preparingand adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminaterisks to you, Golder’s clients, employees and the public
Identifyingand reporting potential and existing site hazards, near loss incidents, andloss incidents
Maintainingexcellent field notes and collecting and handling soil and groundwater samples
Carryingout field work (i.e. groundwater monitoring, K-test data collection andanalysis, soils sampling through test pit excavations or borehole drilling,subcontractor supervision, and drilling investigations, etc.) or officeassignments under the direction of more experience scientists and technicalemployees
Supervisingsubcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying, boreholedrilling, groundwater monitoring well installation and test pit excavation
Overseeingremedial contractors including directing remedial excavations, waste tracking,and progress reporting
Preparingand coordinating project documentation, subcontractors, and equipment for fieldprograms
Filingand managing all project related field notes including some data entry andassistance with report preparation
Performingand recording work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adheringto current industry standards and regulatory requirements
You will have a background in:
Diploma in Environmental Sciences or related
A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work with little supervision
A minimum of three years of experience of contaminated site assessments
Strong awareness of health and safety issues and a safety conscious attitude
Strong interpersonal communication skills
Attention to detail and accuracy of field notes
A valid driver’s license
Previous experience with soil and ground water sampling is an asset
Eligibility for professional certification is an asset
