Golder has a new opportunity for a Senior Biologist to join our Environmental Planning and Permitting Group on a full time basis based in Fort St. John, British Columbia . You will lead a small team of Biologists in the Fort St. John office and will be responsible for managing local projects, seeking new business opportunities and developing relationships with clients and local regulators from the Provincial government and Oil and Gas Commission (OGC).

As a Senior Biologist, you will act across our core service areas with experience in aquatic biology, terrestrial biology, environmental sciences, regulatory permitting, environmental management and project management and has a proven track record of delivering effective results.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Providing leadership in health and safety to staff in the Fort St. John office and during field operations

  • Developing and leading field programs (e.g., permitting, environmental management activities, fish inventories and habitat assessments, fish salvage, vegetation and wildlife inventories and assessments, water quality and sediment quality sampling) for various types of resource development projects including urban development, power, mines, infrastructure, and oil and gas

  • Managing current client relationships and developing new client relationships

  • Maintaining strong relationships with local regulators, Indigenous groups, local governments and other stakeholders

  • Overseeing quality control of field methods and data collection

  • Leading staff in preparing technical reports and proposals

You will have the following background and attributes:

  • Bachelor of Science Degree at minimum

  • Registration as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio)

  • A minimum of 10 years’ experience as a biologist, ideally with a diverse, generalist background

  • A thorough understanding of project management, including extensive experience developing project scope of work, cost estimates, and client management

  • A proven record of professional report writing and providing senior editorial and technical review

  • Demonstrated strengths in developing relationships with clients, government agencies, and Indigenous groups

  • In-depth understanding of applicable provincial and federal environmental regulatory permitting requirements, and experience liaising with applicable government agencies, including the OGC

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills

  • The ability to work in a dynamic environment with limited supervision

  • Aptitude for mentoring and directing junior to intermediate staff

  • Ability to work in a team-oriented environment

  • Comfortable with field work in remote locations and/or travel between offices

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (note - Golder collects abstracts / Motor Vehicle Records for all new and current employees identified as Golder Drivers.)

  • Willingness to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions

  • Based on client requirements, staff can be subject to random drug and alcohol testing

The following experience and training would be considered an asset:

  • Backpack electrofishing crew supervisor certification

  • Swift water rescue technician certification (preferred)

  • Marine Emergency Duties A3 (MED-A3) (preferred)

  • Experience working with boats and motors, ATVs/Argos, and mechanical troubleshooting

  • Small vessel operator proficiency (preferred)

  • Familiarity with the statistical software R

  • Good outdoor survival skills and experience working and navigating in remote areas
