Golder has a new opportunity for a Senior Geophysicist to join our Operations Team in a Full-Time position in our Buffalo, NY office locations.


The roles and responsibilities will entail a combination of technical work, project and staff management, senior technical review, and business development. Candidate will also take a leadership role in planning, developing, directing and promoting our geophysics services including: proposal writing, client development, hiring and strategic planning. A key function of the role involves direct interaction with clients, and with other Golder technical specialists in various offices around the Golder group of companies.

Your primary responsibilities will include:


  • Serve as the northeast leader in the geophysics business across the life cycle of project work: problem definition, solution development, testing, data analysis, report development/review, and operations support;

  • Responsible for profitability performance and cost effectiveness of the northeast geophysics group;

  • Perform project development and delivery tasks (proposals, project management, client relations, senior reviews, team development and training);

  • Work to connect and build relationships with other Golder staff engaged in geophysics around the company, through constructive engagement and collaboration;

  • Arrange technical presentations and webinars;

  • Manage the geophysics equipment procurement, maintenance and budget;

  • Hiring of talented individuals to help the geophysics team grow;

  • Assess and implement new competitive technology initiatives;

  • Assist in similar technical disciplines to help further Golder’s success (e.g., Instrumentation and Monitoring and Laser Scanning);

  • Contribute to a rewarding and collaborative work atmosphere in the New England- New York Group, and to engaging junior staff in all disciplines;

  • Contribute to a culture of health, safety and protection of the environment by being a role model to junior and new staff and by giving industry and site perspectives to inexperienced staff which are crucial to make safety and contribute to the development, streamlining and automation of safety related documentation.

  • Project and Client Involvement:

  • Participating as a project manager in project teams on multiple projects, which may be based out of Buffalo-Horseheads or one of our other office locations across our Northeast and Great Lakes regions;

  • Developing and expanding our relationships and service offerings with clients, understanding of our client’s needs and delivering high quality service to ensure client satisfaction;

  • Functioning as a key participant in team and client meetings;

  • Helping develop and participate in strong interoffice and intercompany teams to achieve project goals;

  • Recognizing areas for internal improvement and working with senior colleagues to develop these improvements; and

  • Minimizing our exposure and risk across projects.

Knowledge Transfer:

  • Collaborating with other Golder geophysics practitioners to share technical advancements, business development successes

Business Development:

  • Focus on growing Golder’s geophysics services by developing work and building a local team and connecting with existing Golder resources

  • Help identify partnership opportunities and capitalize on “add-on” opportunities within existing projects;

  • Working with colleagues to further increase Golder’s profile in the Northeast and Great Lakes regions, to expand our range of services to existing clients and to develop new clients through your contacts;

  • Growing Golder’s local geoscience business by developing work and building a local team; and

  • Develop local Geophysics Days to educate potential clients in our services.


  • Maintaining a chargeability of approximately 75%;

  • Participating in Golder’s medical surveillance program;

  • Demonstrating a “Safety First” focus and acting as a role model to other staff;

  • Participating actively, as a senior group member and well-respected industry professional, in the day-to-day management of the group from a strategic and operational perspective;

  • Maintaining a high standard of ethical behaviour to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrating a commitment to our Core Values; and

  • Performing other duties as required.
