Golder has a new opportunity for a Resident Engineer to join our team in México .

An overview of your role will include:

  • Developing and implementing engineering methods, policies and procedures to ensure the project is completed successfully.

  • Supervising construction staff.

  • Evaluating any technical issues and providing the appropriate solutions.

  • Making sure that the project adheres to all government and industry standards and guidelines.

  • Performing field quality control observations and assessments.

  • Inspecting and assessing the quality of materials being used for construction projects.

  • Calculating the quantity of material, supplies and equipment needed for each individual project

  • Ensuring availability of resources and materials at all times.

  • Preparing periodic reports and assessments for each project phase.

  • Responsible for all construction activities being carried out in accordance to preset safety rules.

  • Ensuring availability of all resources and coordinating with the client to prepare all outage schedules and provide recommendations for all repair work while ensuring compliance to all timeframes.

  • Assisting client in supervision of the contractor, subcontractors, and CQA team to construct the project in accordance with the Design Drawings and Technical Specifications, and to provide field engineering services when needed, including:

  • Support to identify and delineate borrow sources for construction;

  • Overseeing site preparation activities including evaluating foundation materials and identifying weak or unsuitable soils;

  • Leading the construction of test fills on rock fill material to determine lift thickness and placement procedures;

  • Observing placement of engineered fill materials;

  • Evaluating and developing the soil liner borrow source area for suitability in compliance with the project technical specifications;

  • Providing engineering support including on-site design revisions and field fitting of diversion channels during construction to fit field conditions;

  • Reviewing HDPE liner manufacturer documentation for compliance with the specifications;

  • Providing field observations during HDPE liner installation;

  • Providing observations and directing compliance testing during crushing of overliner material;

  • Providing field observations during installation of piping and overliner for the Phase 1 leach pad, channels, and ponds;

  • Coordinating communication between the project manager, CQA team, client project management, and the Contractor to quickly resolve any issues to minimize change orders;

  • Support project safety in accordance with Client’s requirements and procedures including participation in daily tailgate meetings;

  • Implement design changes with support from staff in Golder’s offices;

  • Review payment quantity estimates, surveys, and submittals provided by the contractor to support Client's approval process;

  • Review field reports in addition to field and laboratory test data provided by the CQA team to confirm compliance with the design drawings and technical specifications;

  • Document construction activities and design changes, and submit daily reports to Client’s project manager;

  • Collect and organize construction information and data to be presented in the record of construction report to be prepared after the project is complete.

You will have a background in:

  • Bachelor's degree in Civil, Mechanical, or closely related engineering discipline.

  • 8 years of experience with mine waste projects.

  • Must have worked in large civil engineering projects that have involved CQA, Earthworks, Liners and Heap Leach projects experience is essential.

  • Experience demonstrating ability to lead multi-disciplinary technical teams on complex engineering design projects.

  • A strong focus on workplace safety and demonstrated safety leadership.

  • Strong communication and leadership skills.

  • Ability to travel within the Mexico and internationally for short and medium term assignments.

  • Proficiency in word processing, analytical spreadsheet preparation, and ability to learn a variety of engineering software.

Competencies and attributes

  • Strong writing and analytical skills.

  • Experience with AutoCAD, Civil3D software and ability to lead the development of design drawings.

  • Experience with mine development, operations, and closure is preferred.

  • Proficiency in word processing, analytical spreadsheet preparation, and ability to learn a variety of engineering software.

  • English level (Upper Intermediate)
