Golder has a new opportunity for a Modelling Specialist - Rock Mechanics at our Portland, Oregon office for a Full-Time position.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Apply rock mechanics principles to surface and underground mine design problems ranging from basic applications to state of the art design.
Develop techniques and methods to create solutions for rock mechanic issues.
Perform specialist numerical modeling in support of rock mechanics projects.
Prepare technical documentation to support analytical and numerical studies.
Be a self-starter and be able to take ownership of project tasks using their technical knowledge.
Participate in geotechnical field investigations including logging of soil and rock core data, mapping of rock slopes, and sample collection and preparation for laboratory testing.
Degree in Mining, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
Experience in numerical analyses for geotechnical and or rock engineering applications;
Experience in developing models drawing on in-depth theoretical understanding of numerical methods including 3D finite difference, distinct element, and finite element;
Proficient in use of commercial codes such as FLAC, UDEC, PFC, FLA3D, 3DEC and Map 3D;
Experience with Computer aided design (CAD) software.
Experience in developing complex 3D geometries for numerical modeling purposes;
Experience with Microsoft Office software suite (e.g., Word, Excel).
Demonstrate critical analytical and strong written and verbal communication skills.
Self-motivated and well organized;
Ability to work in a team environment.
Willing and able to travel, both nationally and internationally.
Advanced degree in Mining, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
Experience with general-purpose scripting/programing is an asset.
