Golder is seeking a Senior Project Geotechnical Engineer to join our US Mine Waste Group in our Denver, CO, Reno, NV or Elko, NV offices. You will be involved in a variety of technically challenging projects in North America and worldwide and have the opportunity to collaborate with leading industry experts in mine tailings management.
Salary range: $103,800 to $155,710
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Leading the civil design and geotechnical analysis of mine waste containment (tailings and waste rock) and heap leach facilities including initial layout and design, site selection and facility layout, geotechnical and hydrologic/hydraulic analyses, and preparation of design drawings, technical specifications, and design reporting.
Managing and executing a wide variety of mine waste engineering projects, including geotechnical field investigations, data interpretation, geotechnical analyses, civil layout, geotechnical modeling, detailed design and construction oversight.
Scoping, directing, and reviewing geotechnical analyses with a focus on soil mechanics, including stability, seepage, and run out analyses for mine waste or water embankment dams and waste rock spoils.
Independently managing projects according to client-approved scopes of work and delivering high quality reports on time and within budget subject to senior review and oversight.
Experience and qualifications to take on the role of Engineer of Record for tailings storage facilities.
Providing or contributing to client relationship and business development activities focused on building and growing our business.
Working with and leading multi-disciplinary project teams.
Supporting technical proposals and design work package in response to client needs.
Managing the work of junior engineers.
Participating in and promoting a safety-first culture.
Master’s degree in civil/geotechnical engineering, or related field.
Minimum of fifteen years of relevant (post-degree) experience working in a consulting engineering or mining industry environment.
Professional Engineer registration in the United States.
Demonstrated experience working on projects related to tailings management and heap leach facility design in the mining industry, and experience in commonly used software packages (Civil3D and geotechnical modeling software).
Sound knowledge in soil mechanics, geotechnical engineering, and hydrologic/hydraulic analyses.
Project management skills commensurate with years of experience.
Demonstrated client liaison and business development skills.
Strong interpersonal skills and ability to work with multi-disciplinary project teams.
Strong technical writing skills, with the ability to think critically and problem solve.
Ability to effectively delegate work and lead project teams.
Commitment to safe work practices for yourself and your colleagues.
Fluency in Spanish.
Willingness to work on projects across business sectors, performing a variety of tasks, sometimes on short notice.
Enthusiasm for field work and travel (local and national) as needed for project and other needs.
