Golder has a new opportunity for a Junior Environmental Health and Safety (EHS) Field Technician to join our Environmental Permitting and Monitoring team on a full-time basis based in London, Ontario .
This position includes working on a variety of EHS-related projects involving hazardous materials, occupational hygiene, indoor air quality, microbial assessments, and health & safety.
An overview of your role will include:
- SAMPLE COLLECTION / TESTING
Collection and handling of samples and/or completing required testing for:
Asbestos assessments and abatement;
Microbial assessments and remediation; and
Indoor air quality & occupational hygiene (i.e. noise, biological, chemical, radiation & other).
Preparing and calibrating sampling equipment for field use;
Collection and maintenance of detailed field notes and observations;
Preparation and use of air monitoring equipment; and
Basic application and interpretation of results to ensure the quality and accuracy of deliverables.
- MONITORING / SURVEYING
Site reconnaissance, inspections, & observations for hazardous materials, microbial assessments, industrial hygiene monitoring, infection control and other related EHS discipline work; and
Accurately record relevant data through the appropriate means, medium, and/or equipment.
Prepare and coordinate/assist with project documentation, which could include tabulation of field data and interpreting and preparing written deliverables; and
File and manage all project related field notes including some data entry and assistance with report preparation.
- MONITORING CONTRACTORS & SUBCONTRACTORS
- Monitor contractors and subcontractors on behalf of our Clients to ensure they are meeting the project scope of work and regulatory requirements safely and professionally.
- Health and Safety
Promote and adhere to our corporate Health and Safety policies and procedures;
Participate in the preparation of health and safety plans and adhere to site-specific requirements to mitigate or eliminate risk to Golder staff, our clients, our employees and the public;
Identify & report potential & existing site hazards, incidents, & potential Fatal Risk Controls; and
Ensure proper care, handling, and storage of equipment, samples, and products.
- Teamwork and Collaboration
Work with and support other Golder employees in the field and/or office;
Carry out field work under the direction of more experienced Golder employees; and
If necessary, provide guidance/mentorship to junior Golder employees.
You will have the following qualifications and attributes:
Technical diploma in EHS, occupational health, environmental science or arelated discipline;
Previous field experience is an asset, preferably in a consulting environment with experience in one of more of the following: industrial/occupational hygiene, health & safety, hazardous materials, ergonomics, radiation protection, EHS compliance and assurance, process safety and/or demolition or decommissioning services;
Knowledge of Microsoft Office products is essential;
Excellent attention to detail;
Good communication skills, both verbal and written;
Ability to multi-task in order to meet multiple clients and project needs simultaneously. Strong organizational and time management skills with the ability to prioritize requests;
A valid driver’s license;
Positive health and safety attitude;
Able to adapt to changing circumstances, environments, hazards;
Work independently, show initiative and exercise good judgement; and
Availability and willingness to travel periodically within North America as required, occasionally for extended periods of time. Frequency and duration of travel and site work will depend on business and client needs.
Working conditions and physical demands:
Lifting, moving, and carrying up to 25 kg may be required;
Periods of standing, sitting, and walking on a variety of surfaces, including in extreme temperatures and weather conditions;
Safely driving to and from sites;
Extended periods away from home location due to field assignments. Required to work non-standard hours and/or in various time zones;
Manual dexterity required to use equipment, peripherals, and computers; and
Wear correct PPE as specified, including air-purifying respirators.
