The Manchester, New Hampshire, office is seeking a Staff Geotechnical orGeological Engineer to work as part of a team on infrastructure, solid waste, pipeline, and energy projects. The projects are expected to be located primarily in New England and the northeast U.S.; however, project opportunities at locations throughout North America are possible. In this role you will have the opportunity to perform geotechnical and geologic evaluations and calculations, write technical documents, conduct subsurface investigations, and provide field monitoring, testing, and sampling for a variety of projects. Assignments may include travel to remote locations and outside work in various climates.

Responsibilities of the role willinclude:

  • Scope,budget, execute, monitor and interpret subsurface exploration programs, with directionand support from senior staff;

  • Monitorand log test boring explorations including visual identification andclassification of soil and rock materials, and preparation of boring logs usingmultiple logging software programs;

  • Performgeologic hazard assessments;

  • Installand monitor geotechnical instrumentation systems with support from seniorstaff;

  • Assign,review and interpret the results from geotechnical laboratory testing programs;

  • Performgeotechnical calculations and analyses involving interpretation of subsurfaceconditions, soil mechanics, rock mechanics, foundation engineering, and slopestabilization.

  • Performgeotechnical analyses with computer models for pile and drilled shaftfoundation capacities, slope/embankment stability, MSE wall foundation design,and foundation/embankment settlement estimates.

  • Preparegeotechnical data reports, and report quality calculation packages;

  • Developgeotechnical recommendation for final designs with senior review;

  • Abilityto work with a team or with minimal supervision, and with contractors andcross-discipline in-house designers;

  • Assistwith writing technical reports, design memoranda, field reports, costestimating, specifications, and permit documents with senior technical adviceand review;

The successful candidate will have a background in:

  • Candidatesshould have a M.S degree in Civil/Geotechnical or Geologic Engineering; from anaccredited academic institution;

  • Academicor professional training in soil mechanics, rock mechanics and foundationengineering with emphasis in several of the following areas: geology,subsurface investigations, geotechnical laboratory testing, mechanics ofmaterials, structural engineering, foundation support systems, slope stabilityanalyses, soil and rock slope stabilization, earth support structures,geohazards and geomorphology, GIS, and environmental engineering;

  • Oneto three years of experience in the geology or geotechnical, structural, civil,mining and/or environmental engineering field is preferred;

  • Candidateswith a FE/EIT registration will receive preferred consideration;

  • Thecandidate should have excellent verbal and written English language communicationskills combined with excellent analytical abilities, leadership qualities, apositive attitude and ability to work both independently and within groups;

  • Willingnessto travel domestically and internationally as dictated by project demands;

  • Awillingness and ability to perform a variety of assignments on short notice isvaluable;

  • Experiencewith ArcGIS and AutoCAD is preferred;

  • Competencein the Microsoft Office suite of programs (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint);

  • Abilityto obtain EIT within 2 years required.

  • Focusedorganization and time management abilities;

  • Authorizationto work in the United States;

  • Passa pre-employment physical including a drug screening and background check; and

  • Aclean driving record.
