Golder is seeking a Project Geologist to work with our Manchester, New Hampshire office. From this location, our team of geo-professionals provides services to US and international clients in the transportation, oil & gas, mining, power, solid waste, and infrastructure sectors. This position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides solutions to help solve problems for geological, civil, and geotechnical engineering projects. The work entails a variety of office-related and outdoor “hands-on” activities, with a need to carefully follow instructions, document activities, solve problems, and communicate proactively.

The selected candidate must be comfortable using technology in the practice of geology and working in the field with project teams to support geologic and geotechnical investigations. This position includes opportunities for working both outdoors and in the office with experienced teams on a variety of projects such as linear alignments for pipelines, transportation corridors, and infrastructure siting. The ideal candidate will have demonstrated education and field experience in geomorphology and geohazards, and will have a diverse knowledge of surficial and bedrock geology.

Responsibilities of the role will include:

  • Task and project management, including proposal compilation, contracting, project execution, and documentation and reporting.

  • Perform and/or oversee remote sensing data review (e.g., aerial imagery and LiDAR) to identify and map geologic hazards in ArcGIS

  • Perform and/or oversee geologic field reconnaissance and mapping to identify geologic hazards (e.g., landslide and rockfall hazards, seismic hazards, ground subsidence, etc.)

  • Perform and/or oversee subsurface field geologic exploration tasks including test pitting, geologic/geotechnical drilling, and installing piezometers and slope movement monitoring instrumentationConduct structural geologic and geotechnical mapping of outcrops and rock cuts for kinematic analysis, foundation design, and rock excavation design

  • collection of a range of field data from soil, bedrock, groundwater, and geotechnical instrumentation

  • Interpret, analyze, and model surface and subsurface conditions based on desktop and field data

  • Support geologic hazard mitigation projects (e.g., work with engineering team to develop conceptual plans, provide support during construction, etc.)

  • Safelyperform work in the office and field; fieldwork may occur out-of-town in all seasonal weather conditions, while using equipment (with an ability to lift and move approximately 50 pounds without assistance) and safely operating vehicles on behalf of the company

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, or related field

  • Minimum of five years’ relevant work experience

  • Demonstratable competence in understanding geomorphology and surface processes

  • Computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and basic data management software

  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams

  • Familiar with geologic field skills such as field mapping and identification of geologic hazards

Required:

  • Bachelor’s degree in geology, environmental science, or related field

  • Minimum of five years’ relevant work experience

  • Demonstratable competence in understanding geomorphology and surface processes

  • Computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office, ArcGIS, and basic data management software

  • Detail oriented with strong analytical skills and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams

  • Familiar with geologic field skills such as field mapping and identification of geologic hazards

Desired:

  • Master’s degree in geology or related field

  • Ability to be comfortable in remote settings and a willingness to perform a variety of tasks as needed to complete an assignment

  • Experience with field-based data collection applications

  • Numerical and analytical modeling skills pertaining to geologic, hydrogeologic and geotechnical problems

  • High-angle rope access training

  • Experience using Rocscience’s suite of geologic and geotechnical software tools (or similar)
