Golder has a new opportunity for an Intermediate Environmental Field Technician to join our Contaminated Sites team on a full-time basis based in the Greater Toronto Area (GTA).
The successful candidate will assist with geo-environmental and hydrogeological investigations. The candidate will be responsible for planning, coordinating and supervising field work for a variety of projects, data compilation and entry, and assisting in report and proposal preparation. While the position will be based in the GTA, opportunities to work with other divisions and offices in the Ontario region will be available. Mentoring, supervision and direction will be provided at all levels. The candidate will be self-motivated and will demonstrate strong time management and communication skills.
An overview of your role will include:
Preparing documentation and planning and coordinating subcontractors and equipment for field programs
Participating in field programs (e.g. environmental drilling, surface and groundwater monitoring, sediment sampling and coring, soil and groundwater sampling, soil vapour sampling)
Supervising subcontractors for ground disturbance and utility location, surveying borehole drilling, monitoring well installations and test pit excavations, and directing remedial excavations
Maintaining excellent field notes, and filing and managing all project-related field notes including some data entry and assistance with report preparation
Equipment calibration, maintenance, and repair
Performing and recording work tasks as requested efficiently and accurately while adhering to current industry standards and regulatory requirements
Your experience will include:
Technical diploma or degree in environmental science, technology or related field
Registered with the Ontario Association of Certified Engineering Technicians and Technologists (OACETT) and/or any other relevant professional association
Strong awareness of health and safety issues and a safety-conscious attitude
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in geo-environmental and hydrogeological field investigations
Working knowledge and proficiency in the use, calibration, and maintenance of field monitoring equipment such as water quality meters, gas monitors, sampling pumps, etc.
A positive and enthusiastic attitude, strong problem-solving skills, willingness to learn, and the ability to work with little supervision
Strong verbal and written communication skills, with particular attention to detail and accuracy of field notes
A valid Ontario driver’s license and reliable, insured vehicle for daily business use
Willingness to work out of town on occasion for two to three-week long assignments
Willingness to perform physically demanding work in various weather conditions
