Golder has a new opportunity for a Regional TaxManager – LATAM to join our GlobalTax team on a full-time basis based in Mississauga.
This role will report directly to the Global Head of Tax, based in Canada, and will work closely with the Regional Financial Controller, based in Chile. The job holder will be primarily responsible for the management and execution of international tax matters in the Latin America region including tax planning, tax compliance, tax accounting, indirect tax issues as well as business operational related tax activities globally. The job holder will work closely with the Global Tax Team that is based in Canada.
An overview of yourrole will include:
Preparationof the quarterly tax provision including the current and deferred taxcalculations for all entities in the Latin American region
Assistwith the preparation of the tax packages for LATAM tax entities as well as theconsolidated tax provision, including the preparation and analysis of theeffective tax rate reconciliation.
Preparationof reconciliation and adjustment of tax provision to filings and assessments
Bethe subject matter expert on tax accounting standards applicable to all LATAMentities (i.e. IAS 12)
Supportthe financial statement audits of international entities by tailoring thequarterly international tax provisions to the requirements of the financial statementaudit and responding to all queries with respect to tax accounting for thoseentities
Ensureall permanent and temporary differences are accurately reported and identified
CalculateReturn-to-Provision true up and provide requisite journal entries
Managethe preparation of the corporate income tax returns and other compliancereporting requirements (including Foreign Affiliate Reporting and Informationreturns) under the guidance of the Global Tax Director for LATAM region
Managethe preparation of tax installments calculations, ensuring that installmentsare made on a timely basis
Assistwith tax audits, reassessments and objections
Manageexternal consultants to ensure that all returns are submitted on time
Identifyand mitigate tax risk
Assist the Global Head of Tax with developing a well-defined and streamlined process to prepare and manage indirect tax issues. Specifically:
Managethe preparation of monthly sales tax returns and general-ledger reconciliationfor all entities within LATAM region
Develop,maintain and monitor processes to ensure sales taxes are properly charged
Determineif sales and commodity taxes are properly assessed and paid on invoices
Manageand assist indirect tax audits. Ensure that all indirect tax authority queriesare tracked and responded to in an accurate and timely manner and that allindirect tax authority relationships are properly monitored and managed
Proactivelyseek out opportunities to enhance or streamline indirect tax complianceprocesses
Workclosely with the Golder IT team department to ensure that the system is able tocorrectly account for indirect tax issues and ensuring that reports areproperly configured, monitored and updated for changing tax legislation
InternationalTax, Transfer Pricing, Global Mobility and Other matters (25%):
Workwith external advisors to further simplify the operational transfer pricingmodels ensuring that the models are easy to use and maintain
Developa control framework governing the key transfer pricing flows as well as a planfor managing the annual transfer pricing compliance workflow for LATAM region
Participatefully in all monthly meetings with the external advisors and provide input toensure that external advisors are fully conversant with business issues
Workwith Global Head of Taxation and Global Tax Director to review intercompanyprofitability to ensure that these are within target ranges as outlined in thetransfer pricing reports
Monitorthe BEPS discussions and ensure that the Golder group is ready for expandeddisclosure such as country by country reporting
AssistGlobal Head of Taxation and Global Tax Director to assess current transferpricing models and streamline model inputs and allocation keys where possibleto make model more efficient and build in flexibility for future growth
Assistteam as required in relation to customer queries relating to withholding taxdocumentation
AssistGlobal Head of Taxation and Global Tax Director to assess corporate tax mattersassociated with globally mobile workforce
Assistancein tax planning matters as they arise
Assistingthe Global Head of Tax on financing and treasury matters as required
You will have abackground in:
Aprofessional accounting designation such as CA or CPA
Afour-year university education or equivalent in accounting, plus applicable TaxCourses (preferable)
Aminimum of 5 years of progressive income tax and relevant experience in theLATAM region specifically Mexico, Chile, Peru, and Brazil
Strongknowledge of IFRS including corporate tax accounting knowledge
Corporatetax return preparation experience
Someexperience of working on indirect tax issues
Internationaltax planning experience preferred; candidates willing to learn and get involvedwith tax planning will be considered
Strongverbal and written communication skills
Superiorclient focus with a positive “can-do” attitude
