Golder has a new opportunity for an enthusiastic, proactive and disciplined individual to undertake the role of EnvironmentalTechnician to support our Site Characterisation and Remediation (SCR) team in the delivery of environmental monitoring projects across the UK.

You will be required to regularly attend your home office (e.g. for training, line management and collect sampling equipment) though this role is predominantly field based, working outdoors on a range of clients sites including nuclear and manufacturing. This role can be based out of our Nottingham or Leeds office.

The role requires a resilient and adaptable individual, self-motivated to deliver a high quality of work in challenging environments and in all weathers.

Technical training and work shadowing will be provided. The successful candidate will be required, at times, to work alone, making daily in field-decisions and managing their own time to deliver work to the technical, safety and programme requirements.

Key duties and responsibilitiesinclude:

You will be responsible for:

  • Manage your own health & safety and thatof others that may be impacted by your work.Development of health and safety documentation and implementation ofdynamic field-based risk assessment

  • High quality environmental monitoring ofgroundwater and surface waters to industry best practice

  • Managing and meeting technical / qualityassurance requirements

  • The use, management and calibration of fieldequipment and related consumables to facilitate collection of field data

  • The management of collected samples,including Chain of Custody and sample scheduling

  • Regular liaison with analytical laboratoriesand other subcontractors (e.g. equipment suppliers);

  • Regular site-based client liaison

  • Working on site, in all weathers, withregular contact to a senior member of staff and members of the wider SCR team

  • Making in-field decisions with direction andinput from senior members of staff

  • Project based travel throughout the UK andIreland, occasionally at short notice

  • Undertaking occasional office-based dutieswhen no field work is required. This could include work of an administrativenature and would be conducted from the Golder home office This jobdescription describes the principal purpose and main elements of the job. Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:

  • Disciplined approach to work, demonstrating independence, reliability and a practical mindset

  • Good time-management and organisational skills, with a proven ability to plan workload and prioritise different tasks

  • Ability to perform under pressure

  • Good attention to detail and the ability to take on new concepts

  • Good ICT skills and capable of using Microsoft Office packages

  • Full UK Driving Licence

  • Appetite for field-based working, outdoors and all weather conditions and be flexible and self-motivated

  • STEM A Level(s) / BTEC in a STEM related discipline is desirable but not essential depending on wider experience

  • Health and Safety training (e.g. Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card / IOSH) would be beneficial but not essential

  • First Aid Training would be beneficial but not essential

In house training and work shadowing will be provided in a range of aspects of environmental monitoring covering ground and surface water sampling, gas monitoring. Further opportunities to train in other aspects of environmental site work will also be available.
