Golder has a new opportunity for a Geotechnical Engineer to join our Ground Engineering team on a full-time basis based in Nottingham.
Working predominantly on projects providing geotechnical engineering and engineering geology for infrastructure and land development as well as, potentially, underground space development. The successful candidate will also provide project management support to senior staff.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Providing technical and project coordination support on a range of geotechnical projects primarily concerned with infrastructure, land development and underground space projects
Technical work will include mixture of office-based design work and site-based work including geotechnical field investigations and construction management;
Working with and supporting highly experienced geotechnical engineers on geotechnical projects in the UK and overseas including scoping, pre-feasibility, feasibility studies as well as detailed design, and construction management;
Developing techniques and methods for soil slope stabilisation problems (slope stability, reinforced earth, embankment stability) and geosynthetic engineering, including site visits
Developing techniques and methods for solving rock engineering problems (Rockfall management, in-situ rock slope/cliff stabilisation measures, underground opening stabilisation), often conducting site visits to resolve these issues;
Supporting Project Managers/Directors in business development, proposals, and administrative tasks;
Develop and maintain good relationships with new and existing clients and be able to effectively represent Golder on site;
Manage and participate actively in the development of budgets and plans for projects/work tasks;
Ensure maintenance of a safe working environment by correct application of technical knowledge by diligent and effective use of H&S and Environmental policy and procedures;
Observe schedules and ensure effective performance through the management and coordination of available resources (on site) to deliver agreed outcomes in quantity, quality, and cost of output to meet client (project) needs;
Understands and adheres to Golder Safety, Health, Environment, and other policies relevant to the employee’s actions and role; and,
Frequent UK and international travel. Travel outside of the UK will require overnight stays and likely duration will depend on the nature of the project/client needs. This could include up to 50% of year with periods of up to six weeks at a time, or otherwise agreed with the Ground Engineering Discipline Leader.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
Ability to demonstrate proven working experience in geotechnical engineering, with a particular experience of infrastructure, land development and underground space projects including geotechnical design in office and site-based environments;
Advantageous to also have earthworks design, slope stability analysis and construction supervision experience
BSc or MSc level within civil or geotechnical engineering or engineering geology or a similar discipline
Demonstrable theoretical and practical experience in project management and consultancy, including supporting client relationships, projects, and project teams (including teams of highly experienced geotechnical engineers)
Strong technical writing skills
Strong interpersonal communication
Ability to demonstrate critical thinking skills
Ability build and maintain effective client and other professional relationships
Ability to manage and work effectively within a team environment
Industrial Roped Access trading Association (IRATA) Level I qualification or available to obtain for work at height on rock slope engineering projects
Clean Driving License is essential
