Golder has a new opportunity for a Hydrogeologist /Groundwater Modeller to join our Mine Water team on a full-time permanent basis based in any of our UK/Ire offices (Bourne End, London, Nottingham, Doncaster, Leeds, Edinburgh or Naas)
The Hydrogeologist will provide hydrogeological consultancy services, with a focus on groundwater modelling, as part of a multidisciplinary team focussed predominantly on the mining sector but also providing support to other sectors as required.
Key duties and responsibilities include:
Develop numerical groundwater models to support hydrogeological input to engineering studies and ESIAs for mining and other sector projects;
Carry out groundwater flow and transport modelling in 2D and 3D using computer modelling software to derive design parameters and support groundwater flow and quality assessments;
Participate in conceptual model development, data analysis and numerical modelling activities in collaboration with multi-disciplinary teams;
Provide technical direction to junior and intermediate staff in developing new models and modifying existing models;
Prepare reports, proposals and presentations;
Manage priorities to support multiple projects with competing deadlines;
Meet with clients (both new and existing) and assist with maintaining and developing strong relationships with those clients and managing their expectations;
Project-based travel and site visits, working away from home both in the UK and overseas as needed dependent on business and client need;
Manage and participate actively in the development of budgets and plans for projects and proposals;
Support senior staff with business development activities;
Contribute to a positive and collaborative working environment across disciplines and sectors, encouraging the contribution of ideas to continuously improve project delivery, technical innovation and business processes;
Manage tasks and workloads as appropriate to the role; and
Display a ‘safety first’ attitude in line with an interdependent health and safety culture, promote positive health and safety, raise safety issues through the appropriate channels and adhere to Golder’s health and safety policy and procedures.

Skills, Qualifications, and Experience:
(Ideally) MSc Hydrogeology (or equivalent) combined with a first degree in Geology, Geotechnical Engineering, Civil Engineering, Engineering Geology or a related subject;
Previous experience of working as a Hydrogeologist with a focus on numerical groundwater modelling;
Knowledge of and previous experience with 2D and 3D groundwater flow and transport modelling software (e.g. MODFLOW (and MT3D) and/or FEFLOW,);
Experience of groundwater contamination risk assessment modelling (desirable);
Coding/scripting skills to support groundwater flow model development (e.g. Python) and knowledge of statistics as applied to hydrogeology (desirable);
Advanced analytical and problem-solving skills;
Strong organisational skills with good time-management ability;
Strong written and oral communication skills in English as well as well-developed interpersonal skills;
Proven record of independent work and ability to work effectively within a team environment;
Developed commercial acumen and knowledge of financial control;
Confident in managing professional relationships including liaison with clients;
Ability to mentor and train junior hydrogeologists/engineers;
Committed to Continuing Professional Development and keeping up-to-date with industry knowledge;
Previous experience in the Mining industry and additional language skills (desirable);
Full Driving Licence.
