Golder has a new opportunity for an Archaeology Field Technician to join our Environmental permitting and monitoring team on a contract basis based in Ottawa, Ontario .
The field program is anticipated to begin mid July 2018 and is expected to conclude in December 2018.
An overview of your role will include:
Provide technical services in a field environment;
Carry out archaeological test pit and pedestrian survey, hand excavation of test units, and mitigative excavation in a Professional Cultural Resources Management setting (Stage 2 – 4);
Conduct archaeological assessment in a variety of work environments; outdoors in all weather conditions with overnight stays during out-of-town projects (single or double occupancy);
Participate in a team environment;
Work with and provide support to other members of the field technician group in assisting with other field and office activities as required;
Demonstrate a “Safety First” focus and act as a role model to other staff; and
Perform other duties as required.
You will possess the following qualifications:
Possess or be currently pursuing an Archaeology, Anthropology or related degree from a recognized program;
Previous experience in Ontario archaeological fieldwork;
The ability to practice good field methodology at a brisk pace;
Knowledge of Ontario material culture is an asset;
Access to transportation and valid driver's licence;
Good written and verbal communication skills;
Strong organizational and problem-solving skills;
Ability to carry out strenuous physical activity, walk up to 15 km in ploughed fields per day, and heavy lifting may be required.
