Golder has a new opportunity for a n Environmental Impact Assessment Specialist to join our Environmental Planning team on a full-time basis based in Ottawa, Ontario.

The successful candidate will participate in Environmental and Social Impact Assessment (ESIA) studies and help prepare ESIA Study Reports .

An overview of your role will include:

  • Leading research, writing, compiling and editing environment impact assessment reports and related deliverables for a variety of projects across multiple sectors;

  • Providing advice and guidance to clients on requirements relating to environmental impact assessments within the context of Municipal, Provincial, Federal and/or International regulations;

  • Leading small to medium project teams, and assisting Senior ESIA practitioners in the management of large inter-disciplinary and multi-stakeholder environmental impact assessment projects, including project scheduling, tracking budgets and preparing regular progress reports;

  • Leading, coordinating and communicating with technical teams and clients to respond to key issues and ensure that deliverables are provided within budget and in a timely manner;

  • Providing advice and coordinating activities relating to environmental permitting and monitoring

  • Overseeing or managing project tasks, including interpretation of data, analysis, and development of conclusions and recommendations;

  • Contributing to significant sections of proposals and preparing complete reports, as well as assisting with the review and finalization of other deliverables;

  • Providing technical direction and mentorship to junior staff;

  • Leading and participating in meetings and/or supporting public consultation events and initiatives as part of the environmental impact assessment process;

  • Contributing to group or team goals, management and planning;

  • Regularly contacting clients and managing client expectations;

  • Working with local and regional teams to identify work opportunities and support business development initiatives; and,

  • Demonstrating awareness and understanding of risk and liabilities, and ability to prioritize competing interests.

You have to possess the following qualifications:

  • Undergraduate degree specializing in a related technical environmental discipline;

  • Master’s degree in an environmental impact assessment -related capacity is an asset;

  • A minimum of 8 years hands on experience leading, preparing and/or managing multi-disciplinary environmental impact assessments;

  • Experience managing large and/or complex projects with strict budgets and timelines;

  • A strong understanding of the Ontario and Canadian environmental assessment legislation and processes;

  • A strong understanding of the Ontario and Canadian environmental regulatory and permitting requirements;

  • An understanding of international environmental and social impact assessment standards, guidelines and processes is an asset;

  • A highly motivated and dedicated personality committed to delivering excellence;

  • Strong project management skills;

  • Excellent writing, organizational and process management skills;

  • Ability to frame and communicate complex issues into simple tasks;

  • Keen interest in building effective networks, interacting with clients, fostering lasting relationships and building our business;

  • Focus and commitment to providing quality deliverables in a timely fashion;

  • Focus on health and safety in the workplace and willingness to lead and promote our health and safety culture;

  • Ability to function in a team setting, accept responsibility and work to deadlines;

  • Attention to detail;

  • Valid driver’s license; and,

  • Bilingualism is an asset.
