Golder Associates Junior Geotechnical Field Technician in OTTAWA, Ontario

Golder has a new opportunity for a Field Technician to join our Materials Engineering and Inspection & Testing team on a contract basis based in Ottawa, Ontario.

The Field Technician will focus on technical assistance in construction and materials related projects and tasks including carrying out site reconnaissance, field investigations and assisting with the preparation of technical reports. They will interact with Golder staff including field technicians and technologists, administrative and professional staff as well as some clients.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Summarizing and analyzing findings from investigations and lab testing for report writing;

  • Entering test data and producing standard test reports;

  • Logging and handling of test samples;

  • Following Health and Safety responsibilities, under all applicable government legislations and Golder policies and procedures;

  • Demonstrating a "Safety First" focus and acts as a role model to other staff;

  • Carry out field work on various construction projects including concrete and compaction testing.

You will have a background in:

  • Civil/Geotechnical Engineer Technician/Technologist Diploma or Degree;

  • Familiarity with Ontario Provincial Standards and Specifications (OPSS), test procedures and requirements is an asset;

  • CCIL Certification (asset);

  • Strong knowledge of concrete, granular materials and asphalt is an asset;

  • Willingness to travel short term to complete out of town inspection projects;

  • experience working in construction is an asset

  • Reliable vehicle and possesses a valid driver's license;

  • Strong organizational skills and ability to meet deadlines;

  • Being capable of working in various weather conditions;

  • Being able to lift and carry equipment up to 50lb;

  • Troubleshooting and problem-solving skills;

  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office and general computer usage;

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written).
