Golder has a new opportunity for a Junior Industrial Hygiene Technician to join our Environmental Science & Assessment team on a contractual basis based in Ottawa .
Working as a member of the environmental group, the successful candidate will be members of the industrial hygiene (IH) and environmental, health and safety (EHS) discipline and will provide field, technical and office support to the IH/EHS team.
An overview of your role will include:
Indoor air quality investigations
Industrial hygiene assessments and sampling for chemical and/or biological hazards;
Hazardous materials (asbestos, lead, mould, etc.) and assessments including sample collection
Health and safety audits
Reporting of sample results and field observations
Observation and oversight of remediation contractors
Preparing and calibrating sampling equipment for field use
Maintaining excellent field notes, including filing and management of all project-related field notes including data entry and assistance with report preparation
Identifying potential and existing site hazards. Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to Golder's clients, employees and the public
Reporting all health and safety concerns, incidents and near miss events and participating in all office-lead health and safety initiatives
Maintaining a high standard of behavior to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrating a commitment to our core values

Perform any other duties, including miscellaneous office-related tasks, as required
You will have a background in:
A diploma in occupational health and safety, industrial hygiene or environmental sciences is preferred
Knowledge of environment, health and safety legislation, best practices, and guidelines
Health and safety conscious
Ability to problem solve and think critically
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Diligent and detail oriented (takes excellent field notes)
Ability to speak and write in French is an asset
Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment
A positive and enthusiastic attitude, willingness to learn and the ability to work with little supervision
Previous experience working in the fields of hazardous materials, industrial hygiene, health and safety, radiation and/or ergonomics
Previous experience working in industrial and/or construction settings is also an asset
Working in a team environment and alone at sites across Ontario and Canada. International travel may be required
The ability to bend, lift and carry field equipment, up to 50 lbs
Possess a reliable vehicle, appropriate registration and insurance, and a valid driver’s license
Flexibility to work overtime, after regular business hours and on weekends (if needed) to meet project commitments and deliverables, and the ability to travel and work in unpredictable/varied weather conditions including the ability to hike on and around uneven and sloped terrain
