Golder has a new opportunity for a Pavement/Materials Engineer to join our Geotechnical Engineering team on a full-time time basis based in Ottawa, Ontario.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Participating on Municipal/MTO pavement engineering and/or concrete and materials engineering projects right from the proposal stage to planning and directing the field program;

  • Scheduling laboratory testing, analyzing the results, and writing the report;

  • Managing projects and providing technical direction to project engineers;

  • Working with other members of the Materials and Pavement Engineering Group in a business development and marketing role;

  • Planning, participation and mentoring of junior professional staff and all technical staff from proposal project completion;

  • Direction and some participation in field work will be required including pavement investigations, site reconnaissance, construction site supervision, bridge condition surveys, condition surveys of flexible and rigid pavements, coordinating on-site health and safety and traffic control meetings, and the coordination of the work performed by subcontractors;

  • Field data analysis and interpretation, report writing and client/project management;

While the primary focus will be on pavement and construction materials projects related to the transportation sector, opportunities will exist to work with other groups within this multidisciplinary office, as well as other Golder offices in Ontario and elsewhere.

You will have a background in:

  • A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in civil or geological (geotechnical) engineering, with a M.Sc. or M. Eng. Degree in a relevant Engineering disciplines such as Pavement/Materials/Geotechnical is preferred;

  • Eight (8) or more years of relevant engineering experience is preferred, but consideration will be given to strong candidates who may not fulfil this requirement. Experience in pavement/materials engineering is essential;

  • Proven capabilities in planning and supervising pavement and materials investigations and in writing reports and technical communications;

  • Strong all-around academic knowledge of geotechnical/materials engineering;

  • Experience in analyzing FWD data and AASHTO design software will be an advantage;

  • Experience or aptitude for proposal writing, client development, working in a team setting against tight timelines and other skills appropriate to consulting;

  • Registration or eligibility for registration as a Professional Engineer;

  • Excellent communication skills (both oral and written);

  • Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment.
