Golder Associates Ltd. is currently seeking an experienced Senior Waste Engineer for our Ontario operations . The ideal candidate will be a self-starter, with the ability to work regionally and nationally to support our waste practice and grow the practice in Ontario. Our prime focus is on municipal and private clients engaged in waste management in Ontario. Opportunities also include waste management projects for clients of Golder in the manufacturing, mining, and oil and gas industries. The position includes the opportunity for upward leadership growth and team / group leadership roles (depending on candidate’s experience).
An overview of your role will include:
With support from our waste group leaders and staff in Ontario, you will support our waste practice, participate in the development of the team strategies, and provide services to our clients.You will have a broad range of business development, proposal, project management, design, permitting, tendering, contract administration and project implementation work duties. Depending on market conditions and projects, specific duties will include, but are not limited to:
Participate in the development and execution of the overall Ontario waste practice strategy through development of waste management projects and clients, and engagement in waste-related organizations.
Lead and contribute to requests for proposals and ongoing projects.
Lead and contribute to business development initiatives, proposals and projects;
Lead, mentor, oversee and review the efforts of junior and intermediate staff on waste management projects and associated permitting work.
Manage waste clients in the public and private sectors with waste management facilities and projects, and their implementation.
Complete assessment, design, approvals and implementation of landfills, waste processing and transfer facilities, including material recovery, composting, organics management/diversion and energy utilization facilities and associated innovative processes in the context of assisting with the development of waste planning options.
Assist clients with procurement and review of contractor proposals and bids for waste facilities and systems-related contracts.
You will have a background in:
Professional Engineer of Ontario (registered P.Eng.). or eligible for licensing.
A minimum Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, and a post-graduate degree is an asset.
Ten (10) or more years of experience in the waste management industry is preferred; consideration will be given to candidates with slightly less years of experience but a proven strong record.
Experience in working as part of a project team.
Experience in multi-disciplinary projects for waste management facilities.
Proven experience in successfully securing and executing projects.
Networks of clients in the waste management industry is preferred, or the ability and interest to establish and maintain good client relationships.
Proven track record of business acumen and business development.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Active participation in waste management and diversion industry organizations in Ontario is an asset.
Our waste consulting practice in Ontario is built around our team of highly qualified waste specialists and associated professionals supporting waste management projects, including waste system permitting, compliance, landfill Environmental Assessments, waste facility engineering and design, tender support, contract administration, quality control / assurance, waste diversion, waste planning, and associated environmental assessments. There are currently over 30 persons in the Ontario region who operate in the field of waste management as their main area of practice, including junior to senior professionals, primarily in Ottawa and the GTA. This group is connected to other waste management professionals across North America and internationally through our direct internal network.
