The Redmond, Washington office is seeking a Staff Coastal Engineer to work as part of a team focused on coastal processes (e.g. waves, current, sediment transport) related projects. The successful candidate will be able to assist and support on a diverse range of topics including (but not limited to): marine and coastal processes and forces, field work in coastal and off-shore environments, oceanographic data collection and equipment, at-sea operation of systems, modelling, etc. Work includes integration and collaboration with related hydrotechnical, geotechnical, geologic, and environmental efforts. An appreciation for high quality, effective communication, and client-focused work products is essential. Some travel will be required.
Desired Skills (familiarityand/or experience with):
Assisting withevaluation, optimization, and execution of environmental assessment projects.
Supporting dataanalysis, interpretation, and evaluation of marine and coastal processes(waves, currents, sediment transport) and forces interacting with engineeredstructures and project activities.
Assist with preparingtechnical documents (reports, figures, maps, drawings, specifications)documenting engineering investigations, results, and analyses.
Conducting field workinvolving site visits and data collection in coastal and offshore environments(international travel may be required) including planning, procurement,assembly, testing and maintenance of oceanographic data collection equipmentand at-sea operation of systems.
Contributing to thedevelopment and application of numerical models and data processing algorithmsfor coastal processes analysis using relevant commercial software and state ofthe art computing facilities
The ability to conductindependent analysis, develop visualizations, and interpret complex physicalprocesses by analyzing geospatial and time series data.
The ability to developand apply numerical models for the simulation of waves, currents, sedimenttransport, and morphology change in open coast, inlet, and estuarineenvironments.
The ability tocontribute to the design and development of nature-based and hybrid shorelineengineering solutions
Expertise in applyingstatistical and numerical analysis methods
Understanding of waterwave mechanics, winds and wind loads, and ocean currents.
Knowledge ofoceanographic and meteorological instrumentation.
The preferred candidatewill have the following qualifications:
A minimum of 1 year ofrelated experience.
Bachelor’s degree in CoastalEngineering, Oceanographic, or related discipline required; and an M.S. orPh.D. in similar or related discipline preferred.
Ability to communicateeffectively both verbally and in writing, a positive attitude and the abilityto work independently or as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
Experience with AutoCADand Civil3D (preferred).
Proficient in the use ofstandard MSOffice tools, such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Access.
A strong interest in someor all of the skills as described below.
Experience collaboratingwith related hydrotechnical, geotechnical, geologic, and/or environmental work.
Eligibility forProfessional registration as an Engineer in Training in State of Washington asa Coastal Engineer / Civil Hydrotechnical Engineer or proven eligibility forProfessional registration in U.S.
Willing and able to travellocally/internationally.
