Golder is seeking a mid-level Geologist to work in our Roseville, CA office. From this location, our team of geo-professionals provides services to clients in the solid waste, aggregates, mining, transportation, and manufacturing sectors. This position provides an opportunity to join a fast-paced team that provides solutions on geological, civil, and environmental projects. The work entails a variety of office-related and field activities, with a need to carefully follow instructions, document activities, solve problems, and provide proactive communication.
We are seeking someone with an interest and experience supporting geologic investigations via drilling, soil logging, and environmental sampling. This position will support a variety of projects such as contaminated sites characterization, remediation, groundwater and landfill gas compliance monitoring and reporting. The selected candidate must be comfortable with the use of technology in the practice of geology and working in the field with project teams to support subsurface investigations. The candidate will primarily support projects in the Northern California area with occasional work throughout California. The selected candidate may also have the opportunity to work in project locations throughout North America based on availability for travel for field assignments.
Your primary responsibilities will include:
Perform geologic field reconnaissance and environmental sampling (soil, groundwater, surface water, soil gas, and landfill gas)
Perform subsurface field geologic exploration tasks including drilling oversight, soil logging, and test pit explorations
Install monitoring wells for groundwater sampling and water level readings
Interpretation of subsurface conditions and preparation of boring logs and well construction details
Perform oversight of remediation subcontractors
Provide peer review of staff deliverables
Install and collect data from slope monitoring instrumentation
Perform data compilation, report writing, GIS data analysis, and other related duties to support project teams
Local and national travel (up to 50% of the time) with possible short and long-term assignments at project sites
Safely perform work in the office and field; fieldwork may occur in all seasonal weather conditions, while using equipment (with an ability to lift and move approximately 40 pounds without assistance) and operating vehicles on behalf of the company
Bachelor’s degree in Geology
Minimum of 3 year’s experience.
Familiar with geologic field skills such as drilling, soil logging, and environmental sampling
Demonstrate competence in understanding geomorphology, hydrogeology, and surface processes
Computer skills and experience with industry standard commercial computer software including Microsoft Office and basic data management software
Detail oriented with strong analytical skills and a positive attitude as well as the ability to work both independently and on teams
Candidates must be willing to work in the field conducting physically rigorous field geologic data collection in a variety of terrain and weather conditions
Master’s degree in Geology
Experience with field-based data collection applications
