Golder has a new opportunity for a Climate Change Specialist to join our team in LATAM, on a full time contract.

Job Responsibilities

Participate in the proposal preparation, work plan development, and project delivery of climate change related services across Central and South America and the Caribbean. Primary focus will be on capturing and delivering projects for International Financing Institutions. Secondary focus will be on expansion of services to existing customers and in existing markets relating to climate change and resiliency type services. Existing customers work in the O&G, Mining, and Power Sectors. Additional responsibilities include participation in water resource, social, and environmental projects.

Job Requirements

  • Must have proven knowledge and experience on interdisciplinary climate change planning and a working knowledge of managing climate change impacts

  • Must be able to recommend mechanisms and tools for risk screening and climate proofing development initiatives

  • Must be able to establish priorities for enhancing climate resilience on a project basis including detailed activities, implementation arrangements, and budgetary cost estimates

  • Work experience with IFI’s (IDB, World Bank, IFC, CIFI) is essential, as is knowledge of their policies and procedures in Latin America and/or the Caribbean

  • Demonstrated experience managing single projects and/or multiple projects with budgets more than $100,000 USD

  • Proven ability to work seamlessly with financial institutions, regulators, senior client representatives, multiple internal offices, and sub-contractors

  • Must be available to reside in Latin America and/or the Caribbean

  • Demonstrated ability to manage complex schedules

  • Experience incorporating Equator Principals and International Best Practices into project deliverables

  • Demonstrated experience using IFC Performance Standards

  • Periodically assume the role of team leader and supervise the work of team members

  • Strong analytical, writing, communication and advocacy skills

  • IT literacy, familiarity with e-presentation techniques and ability to operate with on-line web-based applications

  • Demonstrated understanding of the implications of climate change on key sectors and ability to provide guidance on the integration of climate risk management

  • Ability to work with multiple stakeholders across a wide range of disciplines and office locations

  • Experience with ISO 31000 Risk Management Frameworks to assess climate change risk and GIS based risk mapping programs such as HAZUS or CAPRA

Educational Requirements

  • Master’s Degree in the Environmental Sciences and at least 5 years of relevant experience in climate change, natural resources management, vulnerability mapping, and/or community-based development programs

  • Bachelor’s Degree with specialized experience or education in any of the following fields (Development Economics, Energy, Public Finance, Environmental Law, or Meteorology) may be considered in lieu of a master’s degree

Language Requirements

  • Excellent knowledge of the English and Spanish language, with exceptional writing, presentation and communication skills

  • Proficiency in other languages is an asset
