Golder has a new opportunity for a Junior Mine Engineer-in-Training to join our Shafts and Tunnels team based in Saskatoon . The Shafts and Tunnels group specializes in the design, construction and maintenance of mine accesses worldwide.
An overview of your role will include:
Supporting senior engineering staff in completion of projects in the area of rock mechanics, geotechnical, structural and mining engineering.
Working to solve specific mine engineering problems.
Project management including managing budget, forecasting and cost control.
Field work will include some aspects of surveying, QA/QC, and inspections.
Working with a variety of computer programs.
Assisting with the preparation of technical reports
Collaborating with Golder colleagues on new opportunities and in response to Golder client requests; leading and contributing to proposal and opportunity management.
Role will include a combination of office, field work and site secondment.
As Mine Engineer-in-Training you will have the following skills and qualifications:
Completion of a university degree in a civil, geological or mining engineering
Strong understanding of the full Microsoft Suite
Good computer skills with the ability to learn new software
Strong oral and written communication skills
Ability to complete field and office work as necessary, which may involve shift work and work outside of normal business hours
Strong commitment to safety in the workplace
Demonstrate traits in line with Golder’s core values
Able to work independently as well as part of a team/group
Organized with strong attention to detail and time management skills
Valid driver’s license
1-3 years of underground mining experience
Knowledge of programming languages (i.e. Microsoft VBA) would be considered an asset
Familiarity with AutoCAD and the RocScience programs
Basic understanding of soil, rock mechanics, structural engineering and various mining methods
