Golder has a new opportunity for a Soils Technician to join our Biophysical team on a contractual basis. Frequent travelling is required for this role and may be based primarily in hotels. We encourage students and new graduates to apply.
An overview of your role will include:
Participate in field-based projects
Conduct soil data analysis including soil classification and inventory
Complete field work related to environmental construction monitoring
Assist with the preparation and submission of regulatory reporting and permitting
You will have a background in:
Student or new graduate from an Environmental Sciences diploma or degree
Previous experience in construction or agricultural industries is an asset
Basic understanding of:
Soil identification using the Canadian System of Soil Classification and AGRASID 4.0 soil information database
Erosion and sediment control measures
Primary and secondary ecological succession and principles of land reclamation on forested and agricultural land uses
Valid Class 5 driver’s license and clean driver’s abstract
Valid safety tickets such as Standard First Aid, H2S Alive, Transportation of Dangerous Goods (TDG), Workplace Hazardous Materials Information System (WHMIS), Pipeline Construction Safety Training (PCST), British Columbia Mine Supervisor Certificate or equivalent are beneficial, but training will be provided
Desirable Capabilities and Characteristics:
Ability to work independently but also thrive in an atmosphere that requires cooperation and teamwork to provide quality, solution-oriented consulting services.
Willing to travel and work outdoors in remote locations for extended periods of time (e.g., 6 workdays, 1 day off schedule).
Comfortable working around large equipment and heavy machinery.
Confident in project knowledge, utilizes senior support/guidance when applicable.
Adaptable and takes initiative.
Strong note-taking skills and attention to detail.
Working understanding of standard Health, Safety, Security, and Environmental policies (additional training will be provided).
Strong oral and written communication skills in an industrial setting; communicating effectively and efficiently with contractors and external shareholders.
Ability to manage time and resources effectively.
Eligible for registration with the Alberta Institute of Agrologist (AIA) in-training program
