Golder has a new opportunity for an Intermediate Rock Mechanics Engineer to join our Mine Engineering and Stability Division (MES) team on a full-time basis based in Sudbury, Ontario .
Our expanding services in the core field of underground and rock slope stability, site characterization, and mine design, include operating mine site support, conceptual to feasibility level studies, engineering design, construction, and project management for diverse clients in local and global mining markets.
An overview of your role will include:
Performing conceptual, feasibility, and detailed engineering design work
Performing field work, data collection, field testing, data analysis, excavation stability assessments, and calculations
Responsible for implementing and managing rock engineering design project tasks under the direction of the lead engineer
Provision of mentoring to junior employees
Writing and reviewing proposals and reports
Performing Project Management duties as required
Performing / assisting with audits and reviews of excavation stability and ground support systems at mine sites
Follow Health and Safety responsibilities under all applicable government legislations and Golder policies and procedures
Travel to project sites as required
You will have a background in:
B.A.Sc in Mining or Geological Engineering (Masters and PhD degrees may be viewed as an asset but not required)
4 to 7 years of relevant consulting or operating experience in a mining or consulting setting
Demonstrated background in rock engineering, mining methods, mine planning, and operational experience
Possesses Professional Engineer accreditation in the province of Ontario, EIT Certification, or eligibility for Professional Engineering Certification in the province of Ontario
Proficient in AutoCAD
Proficient with Microsoft Office and general computer usage
Proficiency in simple stress modelling tools such as the RocScience suite and MAP3D would be considered an asset
Demonstrated practical interpretation of rock engineering assessment tools such as numerical stress models
Demonstrates a 'Safety First" focus attitude
Strong organizational skills
Business acumen (not required but would be an asset)
Excellent communication skills (written and verbal)
Strong people skills and an ability to work in a team environment (ability to communicate with clients would be an asset) Your benefits at Golder will include:
