Golder (member of WSP) has a new opportunity for an Intermediate Terrestrial Biologist to join our team on a full-time basis based in Sudbury.
The successful candidate will provide support for biological surveys and monitoring, planning, design and permitting expertise on a range of projects. As part of a multi-disciplinary team, you will apply your biological science capabilities to a variety of projects. The successful candidate will have a strong technical background in a biological or natural resources science, but should also be willing and motivated to apply their broader professional skills to a variety of environmental projects and duties. While the primary focus will be on local projects within northern Ontario, opportunities will exist to work on a variety of larger environmental projects, as well as with other Golder offices in Canada.
An overview of your role will include:
Participating in environmental projects from the proposal stage to planning and execution.
Preparing proposals and designing work packages in response to client needs.
Field data collection, analysis and interpretation and report writing.
Coordinating schedules and logistics for biological field programs.
Managing tasks according to client-approved scopes of work and delivering high quality reports on time and within budget.
Project management of small to medium-sized biological projects.
Interacting with clients and regulators.
Assisting in business development and client servicing activities.
Liaising with a network of biological science professionals across Canada.
Providing advice and guidance to clients with respect to species at risk studies and permitting.
Undertaking field assignments that may involve travel and periods of time away from home.
Adhering to QA/ QC procedures to ensure completion of project documents according to company standards.
Preparing and adhering to site-specific health and safety plans to mitigate or eliminate risks to you, Golder's clients, employees and the public.
You will have a background in:
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in biology, ecology or environmental sciences.
At least three (3) years of relevant working experience, preferably in environmental consulting.
Experience with project management, writing proposals and technical reports.
Self-motivated and well organized.
Strong leadership, communication and technical writing skills.
A strong “safety first” focus.
Familiarity with maps, aerial photo interpretation, orienteering and use of GPS
Preference given to those with previous biological field and project management experience and knowledge of species at risk legislation and permitting.
Complementary skills and experience in aquatic biology will be considered an asset.
A valid driver’s license is required.
