Golder has a new opportunity for an enthusiastic, proactive and disciplined individual to undertake the role of EnvironmentalTechnician to support our Site Characterisation and Remediation (SCR) team in the delivery of environmental monitoring projects across the UK. This role is predominantly field based, working outdoors on a range of clients sites including nuclear and manufacturing.
The role requires a resilient and adaptable individual, self-motivated to deliver a high quality of work in challenging environments and in all weathers.
Technical training and work shadowing will be provided. The successful candidate will be required, at times, to work alone, making daily in field-decisions and managing their own time to deliver work to the technical, safety and programme requirements.
Key duties and responsibilitiesinclude:
You will be responsible for:
Managing yourown health & safety and that of others that may be impacted by yourwork.
Developmentof health and safety documentation and implementation of dynamic field-basedrisk assessment
Highquality environmental monitoring of groundwater and surface waters to industrybest practice
Managingand meeting technical / quality assurance requirements
The use, managementand calibration of field equipment and related consumables to facilitate collectionof field data
Themanagement of collected samples, including Chain of Custody and samplescheduling
Regular liaisonwith analytical laboratories and other subcontractors (e.g. equipment suppliers);
Regular site-basedclient liaison
Working onsite, in all weathers, with regular contact to a senior member of staff andmembers of the wider SCR team
Making in-fielddecisions with direction and input from senior members of staff
Projectbased travel throughout the UK and Ireland, occasionally at short notice
Undertakingoccasional office-based duties when no field work is required. Skills,Qualifications, and Experience:
Disciplinedapproach to work, demonstrating independence, reliability and a practical mindset
Goodtime-management and organisational skills, with a proven ability to planworkload and prioritise different tasks
Abilityto perform under pressure
Goodattention to detail and the ability to take on new concepts
Good ICTskills and capable of using Microsoft Office packages
Full UK DrivingLicence
Appetitefor field-based working, outdoors and all-weather conditions and be flexibleand self-motivated
STEM ALevel(s) / BTEC in a STEM related discipline is desirable but not essentialdepending on wider experience
Healthand Safety training (e.g. Construction Skills Certification Scheme (CSCS) card/ IOSH) would be beneficial but not essential
First AidTraining would be beneficial but not essential
In house training and work shadowing will be provided in a range of aspects of environmental monitoring covering ground and surface water sampling, gas monitoring. Further opportunities to train in other aspects of environmental site work will also be available.
