We are seeking a Planner Intern to join our Tampa office who will perform professional and technical work in the field of land use and environmental planning. Main responsibilities will be to support planning reviews and studies; assisting with the collection and presentation of data, providing technical support for utility and industrial-type projects. Individual will report to Senior planners and project management to support existing planning practice.
Familiar with the principles and practices of urban andenvironmental planning;
Familiar with Florida Statutes, Comprehensive Plans, Codeof Ordinances, and Land Development Codes, as well as applicable laws andregulations and other policies and standards;
Experienced with reviewing and the interpretation ofrules, regulations, and policies for effective decision-making.
Familiar with evaluating land development regulations, suchas, but not limited to, variances, zoning changes, special/conditional usepermits, site plan approval, text amendments, Comprehensive Plan amendments andplat approvals.
Familiar with preparing land development applications, suchas, but not limited to, variances, zoning changes, special/conditional usepermits, site plan, text amendments, Comprehensive Plan amendments and platapprovals.
Experienced in researching, interpreting, compiling, andsummarizing statistical data and materials.
Experienced in preparing reports and recommendationsregarding land use, zoning, population trends, transportation, housing, environmentaljustice, and other community service needs to support applications.
Ability to establish and maintain effective workingrelationships and communications with internal and external clients, industryprofessionals, co-workers, and the general public.
Conducts fieldwork and site inspections, as requested.
Ability to organize work, establish priorities, meetsestablished deadlines, and follow up on assignments with direction/guidance.
A Bachelor'sdegree in planning, environmental science, environmental policy, or othernatural sciences, or geography from accredited program.
One to two years professional planning experience withina public organization and/or private firm; or an equivalent combination ofeducation, certification, training and/or work experience.
Mustdemonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills, stronginterpersonal skills, and the ability to clearly and effectively communicateinformation.
Mustbe proficient in the use of basic computer software (i.e., Microsoft Word,Excel, PowerPoint).
