Golder is seeking a Project Rock Mechanics Modeler to join our Phoenix, AZ office.
Responsibilities of the role will include:
Apply rock mechanics principles to surface and underground mine design problems ranging from basic applications to state of the art design.
Develop techniques and methods to create solutions for rock mechanic issues.
Perform specialist numerical modeling in support of rock mechanics projects.
Prepare technical documentation to support analytical and numerical studies.
Participate in geotechnical field investigations including logging of soil and rock core data, mapping of rock slopes, and sample collection and preparation for laboratory testing.
Contribute to technical solutions spanning multiple engineering disciplines
Bachelor's degree in Mining, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
At least 3 years relevant simulation or modeling experience.
Experience in numerical analyses for geotechnical and or rock engineering applications.
Experience in developing models drawing on in-depth theoretical understanding of numerical methods including 3D finite difference, distinct element, and finite element.
Proficient in use of commercial codes such as FLAC, UDEC, PFC, FLA3D, 3DEC and Map 3D.
Proficient with general-purpose scripting/programing.
Experience with Computer aided design (CAD) software.
Experience in developing complex 3D geometries for numerical modeling purposes.
Ability to travel, both nationally and internationally.
- Master’s degree in Mining, Civil, or Geotechnical Engineering or related field.
