Golder has a new opportunity for a Senior Indigenous Engagement Specialist to join our Environmental Planning & Permitting team on a full-time basis based in Thunder Bay.
The successful candidate will be involved in the regulatory, planning and management aspects of projects and in providing assistance in the continued development of business opportunities throughout Ontario.
An overview of your role will include:
Developing Indigenous engagement/consultation strategies and plans for our clients
Depending on client requirements, ongoing support and advice on Indigenous engagement and issues management may include:
Leading or participating in client meetings with Indigenous groups
Identifying, tracking, and monitoring issues, concerns, and interests identified by Indigenous groups
Advising clients on issues related to project development and assisting them in developing solutions and strategies to address those issues, as appropriate
Assisting clients in integrating issues, interests, and inputs of indigenous group information into project planning and design and mitigation and monitoring strategies, and other regulatory and commercial considerations
Supporting the negotiation of agreements between clients and Indigenous groups, as required
Participating in Golder’s Indigenous relations strategies, including the identification of potential business opportunities with Indigenous groups
Writing, editing, and reviewing baseline and assessment reports on Traditional Land Use in support of Environmental Impact Assessments
Completing historical and current research related to Traditional Land Use
Liaising with Project Managers and other component disciplines (e.g. bio-terrestrial, archaeology, aquatics)
You will have a background in:
Successful candidates in this position may come from a variety of academic backgrounds (e.g., anthropology, environmental sciences, Indigenous studies, biology)
10-15 years of relevant work experience, with two or more years in a professional consulting context
Experience in developing and leading Indigenous consultation programs
Energetic and highly motivated professional
Communicates and collaborates effectively
Demonstrates the ability to work with Indigenous people honestly while building respectful relationships.
Experience supporting communities in the collection and documentation of Indigenous Knowledge for a variety of purposes
Demonstrated ability to integrate Traditional Knowledge, belief systems, and Indigenous rights (land claims and treaties) with western scientific practices, and within the legal or regulatory framework.
Ability to write, edit and review baseline and assessment reports on Traditional Land Use in support of Environmental Impact Assessments.
Experience with providing community engagement support services to clients (e.g., responding to community concerns, facilitating Indigenous participation on field programs, coordinating, developing, and executing Indigenous engagement meetings).
Experience with Indigenous engagement process documentation, including tracking input and responses and integrating feedback into project design and reporting
