Golder Associates Senior Hydrogeologist in VALLE DE CAMPESTRE, Mexico

Golder Mexico office requires a Senior Hydrogeologist to join our office in Hermosillo, Mexico.

In this role, the successful candidate will work with an experienced team, servicing clients in the mining and water supply industries throughout Latin America. The Mine Water Division is recognized as one of the most solid teams in the region and is experiencing constant demand driven by our high-quality services.

The primary focus for the Senior Hydrogeologist is to lead a groundwater modelling group and implement novel methods to inform clients and regulators. The Senior Hydrogeologist provides guidance and consulting services in specialist areas and is expected to establish strong linkages across the Global Mining business.

The candidate will need to have a proven track record in delivering services to large scale mining operations related to hydrogeology, modelling different codes with advanced numerical techniques, hydrogeological characterization, groundwater management, as well as involvement in environmental assessments.

An overview of your role will include:

A key component of the Senior Hydrogeologist role is to work with local Golder counterparts and external clients to develop modelling components of different projects.

  • Health and safety leadership

  • Guidance and mentoring of regional modelling team

  • Work collaboratively with other senior members of the Golder Mining team.

  • Lead modelling components for local, regional and international consulting projects so they are delivered safely, on time, within budget and to client and Golder’s standards.

  • Deliver leading practice consulting services to internal and external clients

  • Establish linkages with other business units to support and enhance service delivery

  • Develop groundwater models for mining projects at various stages of development, ranging from exploration phase through mine closure

  • Frequent and active interaction with international team of groundwater modelers, and our local experts in hydrogeology and geochemistry

  • Travel domestically and internationally to meet project needs


Base for this role is Hermosillo, México, and the work is mainly project base, however in this role the candidate will regularly work with our experienced groundwater modelers from around the world. It is required for this role the ability to communicate clearly in English, and strong preference will be given to candidates who are bilingual in Spanish and English. Relocation assistance will be available for successful candidates.

Technically, it will be valued the candidate to have:

  • Experience building and calibrating groundwater models using industry-standard software including MODFLOW and FEFLOW

  • Experience with other modeling software packages (1D, 2D and 3D), model code manipulation, solute transport modeling and automated model calibration (e.g. using PEST)

  • Familiarity with GIS packages (e.g. ARCGIS, MapINFO), geological modeling software (e.g. Leapfrog), programming, and other support software such as Surpac, Rockworks, Python, MATLAB, etc.

  • Ability to create realistic conceptual hydrogeological models as a basis for groundwater model construction

  • Experience conducting seepage assessments using seepage modeling software including SEEP/W and HYDRUS

  • Familiarity with water balance and the GoldSim platform

  • Experience with project planning, including the ability to accurately estimate the time necessary to complete model build, calibration, and simulations; the ability to complete projects within the assigned budget is essential to our success

  • Previous field experience involving hydrogeological assessments, including hydraulic testing and design for applications such as dewatering, seepage mitigation, well field layout and optimization, etc. will be highly regarded
