Golder Associates are looking to expand their team of people with expertise in Discrete Fracture Network (DFN) characterization and modelling, to be based in our Vancouver office.
The ideal candidate for the DFN Geoscientist/Geomechanical Engineering position would be able to work across a range of technical areas including mining geomechanics, rock mass characterization and oil & gas geomechanical modelling including hydraulic fracturing simulation. The successful candidate will work within Golder’s Mining Engineering and Stability Division but will work closely with Golder’s FracMan group in Europe and the US.
An overview of your role will include:
Planning, managing and executing DFN based and geomechanics and numerical modelling studies.
Presentation to clients on analysis and modelling results and an ability to prepare high quality technical reports
Participating in business development and preparation of technical proposals
Training & mentoring of staff in DFN related skills
Your background will include:
A Master’s degree or higher in Geological engineering, rock mechanics or Structural Geology with advanced geomechanics training
Experience of Discrete Fracture Network theory, analysis & modelling with FracMan experience a bonus;
Experience of delivering geomechanics/geoscience related solutions in the mining & oil & gas sectors;
Experience of Discrete Fracture Network analysis & modelling, FracMan experience a bonus;
Proficiency in building geological/geomechanical models and being able to examine model uncertainties and limits.
Experience with the discrete geomechanical modelling code Elfen as well as other codes such as Flac, Flac3D, UDEC, 3DEC, PFC(3D)
Experience with a number of technical areas including open pit or underground rock mechanics, hydraulic fracture simulation, cap rock integrity, fractured reservoir characterization or induced seismicity
Self-starter with strong analytical, organizational and communication skills;
Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written, in English, with the ability to both absorb and impart information;
Eligibility to work in Canada;
Full Driving License; and willingness to travel both domestically and internationally. In addition, one or more of the following skills will strengthen the application:
Fundamental understanding of reservoir geomechanics and/or hydraulics/fracture flow systems;
An established profile and network of contacts in the sector; and
A proficiency in uncertainty characterization (probability theory, techniques and software)
