Golder has a new opportunity for an Intermediate Geochemist to join our Water team on a full-time basis based in Calgary or Vancouver.
The selected candidate will support geochemistry-related projects and proposal efforts with an emphasis on the oil sands and mining industries in Canada. Projects typically involve permitting, baseline studies, operational support, and reclamation/remediation.
An overview of your role will include:
Providing support for geochemical projects, specifically in oil sands and mining environments
Conducting geochemical characterization studies of mine wastes (ore, waste rock, gases, and water), radiological assessments, and other environmental investigations
Mentoring junior staff with data analysis and reporting
Coordinating and liaising with laboratories on geochemical and mineralogical analyses
Planning and coordination of field and laboratory testing activities
Collection, management, and analysis of geochemical data
Data interpretation and conceptual model development
Report preparation including figures, tables, and presentations
Demonstrating a “Safety-First” focus
Maintaining a high standard of behavior to uphold Golder’s reputation and demonstrating a commitment to our Core Values
You will have a background in:
Advanced degree in Geochemistry (MSc or PhD) with a focus on Geology, Environmental Science, Geological Engineering, or related field - ideally with a strong quantitative background
5 to 10 years applied work experience in geochemical assessments within natural or contaminated sites
Strong understanding of mineralogy, geology, and chemistry
Academic knowledge of surface water and groundwater interactions, hydrology, and hydrogeology
Familiarity with industry-standard modeling software such as PHREEQC, Geochemist’s Workbench, and GoldSim would be considered an asset
Strong data manipulation abilities including experience with data management tools (i.e., Excel, EQuIS, Access)
Strong relational skills within the team environment and with clients are essential
Excellent organizational and communications skills
