Golder has a new opportunity for Junior Biologists and/or technicians in Fisheries, Marine, and Terrestrial (Wildlife and Vegetation) disciplines to join our Environmental Planning & Permitting team based in Vancouver. The positions are both hourly contracts with opportunity for extension and full time or traditional positions are available commensurate with qualifications/experience.
An overview of your role will include:
Participating in/ conducting field programs in terrestrial, freshwater aquatic, and marine settings (i.e. environmental monitoring, fish and fish habitat assessments, fish salvage, water quality, benthic invertebrates, sediment, vegetation, and wildlife surveys) for various types of projects in the energy, mining, infrastructure, and oil and gas sectors.
Planning for logistics and equipment
Supporting simple to complex field programs as a crew member
Quality control of field data collections and data entry
Assisting with implementation of safety measures during field programs.
Assisting with office-based proposal efforts, background research, and technical report preparation
Performing physically demanding work in various weather conditions
You will have a background in:
Technical diploma (Fish and Wildlife Technician), or Degree in Biology or equivalent field, or appropriate field-specific training programs.
Strong commitment to health and safety
Understanding of the functioning of terrestrial, marine, and/or aquatic ecosystems within BC
Understanding of various basic survey, sampling, and data collection techniques (e.g. for ecosystems, vegetation, wildlife and wildlife habitat, fish and fish habitat, water quality, benthic invertebrates, sediment in freshwater, terrestrial and marine environments).
Experience with avian, vegetation, fisheries, and/or marine surveys an asset.
Working knowledge and proficiency in the use of basic field navigation and survey equipment such as maps, GPS, compass, clinometer, water quality meters etc.
Self starter and ability to work effectively in a team environment.
Valid Class 5 driver’s license
Experience operating in remote locations an asset.
Level 1 First Aid or greater certificate with CPR and AED (preferred)
Backpack electrofishing certification (preferred)
Swift water rescue technician certification (preferred)
UTV, snowmobile operator certification (preferred)
Boat Operator Certificate (preferred)
Scuba Diving experience and qualifications an asset
