Golder has a new opportunity for a Senior Marine/Aquatic Biologist to join our Environmental Planning & Permitting team on a full-time basis based in Vancouver.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Designing and leading investigative field assessments for multi-disciplinary projects for a variety of sectors, including infrastructure, oil & gas, power, mining and land development

  • Managing budgets, schedules and personnel involved in conducting fish habitat baseline studies and environmental effects assessments and delivering technically defensible reports on time and within budget

  • Maintaining a strong rapport with applicable regulatory agencies, technical organizations and relevant subcontractors and representing Golder at technical, regulatory agency, client, and or Indigenous group meetings

  • Preparing permits/regulatory approval applications (e.g., Fisheries Act authorizations, Water Sustainability Act)

  • Pursuing and undertaking business development opportunities with a focus on fish habitat assessment, offsetting/compensation, regulatory permitting, environmental monitoring, and fisheries sciences

  • Liaising with the technical community of Golder professionals across Canada and internationally

  • Preparing proposals and design work packages in response to client needs

  • Offering innovative solutions to Golder clients through business development initiatives

  • Providing technical direction and mentoring to junior and intermediate staff

You will have a background in:

  • Degree in marine/aquatic biology, estuarine ecology, fisheries, resource management or equivalent

  • A minimum of ten years of relevant work experience, ideally with five or more years of relevant experience in a professional consulting context

  • Specialized skill set in fish habitat assessment, offsetting and regulatory permitting

  • Strong commitment to health, safety and environmental management

  • Experience leading teams and providing mentorship and training to junior staff for successful project delivery

  • Experience in project development, project management, proposal writing, budget development and budget management

  • A proven record of professional report writing and providing senior editorial and technical review

  • Demonstrated strengths in developing relationships and communicating with clients, government agencies, and Indigenous groups

  • Working knowledge of federal and provincial environmental legislation as related to coastal and freshwater development projects and potential impacts on fish and fish habitat

  • Demonstrated experience in study/survey design specific to aquatic effects assessment, field programs, environmental monitoring programs, abundance surveys, biological inventories and fish habitat offsetting or compensation programs

  • Demonstrated knowledge of the British Columbia and Canada environmental assessment processes and the accepted methodologies used to assess project-related effects on valued marine ecosystem components

  • Membership in good standing in the College of Applied Biology as a Registered Professional Biologist (RPBio) in British Columbia

  • Strong organizational, interpersonal and time management skills

  • The ability to thrive in a dynamic team-oriented environment with limited supervision

  • Comfortable with field work in remote locations and/or travel between offices

  • Experience with statistical and analytical analyses software packages such as R, AD Model Builder and MS Access is an asset

  • Valid Class 5 driver’s licence (Note - Golder collects abstracts / Motor Vehicle Records for all new and current employees identified as Golder Drivers)
