Golder has a new opportunity for an Senior Water Quality Specialist to join our team on a full time basis based in Vancouver or Calgary . As a Senior Water Quality Specialist, you will undertake analysis, reporting and evaluation of water quality data, and join approximately 30 water quality scientists and environmental engineers working in Alberta, British Columbia and Ontario.

An overview of your role will include:

  • Preparing proposals, budgets, schedules, and presentations for large multidisciplinary and smaller-scale projects

  • Responsible for mine waste characterization, acid generation/metal leaching prediction and water quality tasks that included field sample collection, laboratory coordination, data analysis and report preparation

  • Conducting field investigations including waste rock geochemical characterization, geotechnical soil/rock core logging, piezometer installation, conductivity testing and sampling in soil, rock, groundwater and surface water

  • Conducting studies including probabilistic and deterministic modelling of geochemical interactions of surface water and groundwater hydrology and water treatment related to mining environments

  • Working on geochemical assessment projects in support of studies for various levels of mining: i.e., scoping studies, feasibility studies, baseline studies, environmental impact assessments (during the construction period, operations, closure/post-closure phases), permitting, operational compliance monitoring and closure plans

  • Using water quality models to evaluate potential environmental effects of changes to aquatic systems

  • Developing new models and modifying existing models

  • Completing conceptual model development, data analysis, and numerical modeling

  • Collaborating with multi-disciplinary teams to complete environmental impact assessments for large mining operations

  • Managing priorities to support multiple projects with competing deadlines

You will have the following skills and attributes:

  • University degree (preferably Masters or Ph.D. in environmental science, environmental engineering or geochemistry)

  • 15 years' of work experience in the field of water quality or geochemistry experience in Environmental Assessments, permitting, preferably in Mining sector

  • Strong interpersonal, written, and verbal communication skills

  • Demonstrated technical skills in surface water quality modelling and assessment

  • Familiarity and experience using surface water quality modelling software (ie. Goldsim, WASP, CE-QUAL-W2, HSPF etc.) programming writing
