Golder has a dynamic and growing business in Africa and is seeking a Senior / Principal Environmental Consultant to join our Environmental Permitting Team.
The successful candidate will be an experienced consultant with a proven record building business and leading technical multi-disciplinary teams. They will be available and medically fit to travel to project sites, work in a team environment and apply a high degree of problem-solving in the execution of duties. This full-time position will be based in South Africa, although other office bases can be considered (Southern and West Africa).
Key duties and responsibilities will include:
The appointed candidate will be expected to lead ESIA projects and contribute to the successful execution of a variety of environmental and social projects servicing predominantly oil and gas and mining clients, as well as other sectors such as renewable energy, transport and infrastructure. Proven experience in working with International standards such as Equator Principles, World Bank EHS guidelines, AfDB and IFC Performance Standards will be required.
Skills, Qualifications, and Experience
Preferred minimum qualifications and skillsets include:
Bachelor (Honours) or equivalent 4-year degree in environmental sciences or equivalent. A Master’s degree will be an advantage.
Demonstrable and progressive experience in environmental consulting and project management, including managing budgets, schedules and able to produce quality deliverables.
Experience working with project developers, lenders and an understanding of project financing processes and Environmental, Social and Governance elements will be an advantage.
Experience in mining, oil and gas, industrial, energy, and transport infrastructure sectors will be an advantage.
Applied understanding of, and proven experience in international and lender standards.
10-15 years of progressive experience in the consulting field will be an advantage.
Progressive project ESIA experience in developing countries in Africa.
Proficiency in the use of MS Office suite of software, including MS Project or similar.
Valid Driver’s Licence
Must be medically fit and able to work in remote locations from time to time
